Hello, club members.
First off, I'd like to thank Ryan (coral_reefer_25) for the fine work on the web site over the past year. Thanks, Ryan for all your hard work!
Secondly, I'd like to announce that Ryan will be the MTRC webmaster for 2007. Thanks, Ryan for accepting the position for this year
Lastly, I'd like to use this thread to lay out our plan for the website this year, and to solicit ideas and participation from others in the club. We have a lot of IT expertise in the club and I think there is plenty of work to go around. Ryan can't do it all by himself, so if there is enough interest, we will form a website committee that Ryan will chair. Essentially, this committee will make decisions about how to get things done on the website and who will do what.
Here are the current priorities (open to discussion) that the board would like to see:
1) Automated membership form. We need to build a registration form that ties into the paypal payment so as to fully automate this process. Currently there is a pdf form that must be filled out and mailed in in addition to using paypal or check. We need to keep the pdf form, but should only use that if someone wants to pay by cash or check.
2) A prominent section or space on the MTRC site for the Frag Swap. This section should include background on the swap, how to get there, pics of the swap, prominent display of banner ads or other things showing our sponsors, and general stuff that really jazzes people up about the swap. This work would be coordinated with a Frag Swap committee (they will come up with the details, such as who the sponsors are, where it will be, etc.).
3) Pics for the Members! We have some folks with camera skills and who are willing to get out there and take some pics. We need a plan to get that done, and a place to add the pics to the site. It would also be great if we could get those pics linked into showing pics of the tanks(s).
4) Prominent space to list our club sponsors/supporters.
5) Benchmarking some traffic statistics to the site, so we know where we stand with # hits, etc, and can see any growth.
6) An improved navigation of our calendar of events linking into documentation of the meets. We have our calendar basically set for this year, so we should be able to get a nice listing up. The calendar doesn't have to be fancy -- just a central place for people to go to see what is up with the club.
One thing I'd like to add is that the discussion board will remain on RC, so no discussion boards on the website.
So anyone who would like to participate, or has feedback on the above, or other ideas go ahead and chime in! The website made some major steps forward last year, and I'd like to see it grow as a central resource for the club and for our premier event (the Swap)!
