Multicolor angel/tank size question

I posted in the Fish/Aggressive forum too but looking for opinions. I'm setting up the 37 gal. column tank (20x18x25). Keeping my pair of ocellaris and my ywg. I also have a gorgeous multicolor angel that I've had for two years but wondering if he'd do okay in this size tank. All of these fish were previously in my 120 so it's quite a downgrade but if the angel would work, I'd like to keep him. Thoughts?

Funny...I had cichlids in that same tank for years. Not sure how the angel would do in there, though I suppose with sufficient live rock for it to continue to it's grazing habits it might be ok. I've got one in my tank and it's always on the lookout for a snack:)

I have a good amount of live rock for this tank. My concern is that even in the 120 the angel was occassionaly pushy with the other fish. Having him in close quarters might make matters worse. It may be a "try it and see" situation.

Tough call -- I am leaning towards saying no, but know how hard it is to get rid of a fish (( have a multicolored myself )).

Are you willing to deal with the hassle of getting it out when/if it turns?

Points well taken! Appreciate your input and I have had reservations about this. Catching centropyges is no picnic. I'm also leaning towards getting one of the pygmy angels instead (argi or flameback). I may see if the buyer of my 120 would be interested in the multicolor. Really a super fish that would be happier in a larger tank. Hmmm...:hmm2:

Not so sure I'd worry about the angel "turning"... what about the clowns, especially when they start to spawn?

I had mine in a 29g stuffed with live rock and he seemed to do well. I only had him in there for a few months after I sold my 340g tank, but he certainly didn't seem to mind. He was the only fish though.

I would try it because IMO success is likely.

I'd agree with Gary, chances are it'll work fine, so I'd say go for it.

I agree. Odds are he will do just fine.

Thanks for the replies. I think I will try it and see how it goes. There will be enough open space to allow free swimming and enough rock for shelter/grazing. Given that the only other fish will be the clowns and ywg, it might work. Appreciate everyone's input.

So far so good

So far so good

Transfered the livstock last night. All fish adatping well and they seem to have enough space w/o crowding each other. The angel is busy exploring and picking at the rocks. I'll watch to see how things develop but thus far it seems to be working. Thanks again for all the input. Hoping it works long term as I really like this angel.

I'd only worry about aggression issues. I saw Scott Michael actually list a 50 gallon tank as smallest, because of their aggressive nature.
However, an C. argi or C. acanthops would be WORSE, IMO because they are very aggressive in smaller tanks. Plus hyper-active as well! LOL
