Multicolor angels

I posted some pics in another thread but thought i would start my own.I am pairing up two multi color angels and the smaller of the two is the smallest fish i have ever cared for. This in my mind leaves little margin for error in getting the small one to eat.I have tried brine shrimp with spirulina and some rods food so far.The bigger of the two is eating pretty well already and i have seen the smaller one picking.I may put a bit of live rock in the tank if i dont feel he is eating enough fast enough for me.Anyways here is a few more pics.

If it is small and not eating then put some live rock in there. Dwarf's don't do as well in sterile aquariums. They do much better if they can browse on algae.

Also try putting some small mysis through a powerhead to chop it up into really small pieces. Many of mine prefer smaller pieces of food.

Well i woke up this morning and the small angel was dead.Having only had him a few days i am not sure what else could have been done.I am pretty unhappy with the outcome but the larger angel is doing well and eating like a pig.i dont think i am gonna get a replacement and just keep him as a single fish.I was quite worried when i first got him as i ordered a large and a sm/m fish and got a med and a tiny.Either way have a happy new year everyone-Kieth

Dang:(...Sorry to hear about your loss.

Ty jhawkor..This was the smallest angel i have ever had in my care and i think if he had a little bit of fat stores he may have made it but he was so skinny when i got him that i was nervous from the minute i saw him in the bag.If i had seen him before hand i wouldnt have bought him but the other angel is doing well so i will just put all my efforts to get him nice and fat before he goes into my display.

Sorry for your loss. Two factors I see may be of issue: 1) did you FW dip to check for flukes? 2) pairing two fish in QT is not easy especially bare tank with almost nothing to run for cover. Multicolor angels are a bit on the aggressive side toward their own and stress can do them in.

I did not freshwater dip them. They were in the same tank but were seperated bye egg crate and showed no aggression twords each other at least when i was watching and could not hurt each other. The smaller of the two basically lasted from the time i got them tuesday afternoon to thursday morning when i woke up.To me although the bare tank(which i added a few pieces of live rock to the smaller ones side) is not always ideal i really think the fish was just underfed before i ever got him.I have paired up fish before this way and as i said before i have never had such a small fish. This fish was 1 and 1/2 inches long tip to tail and was very skinny. The larger of the two is doing well so far.Flukes is always a concern for me but i saw none of the common signs of flukes from either fish.I will treat the remaining fish with prazipro eventually.

Well at least you still have one C. multicolor, a beautiful fish. Plus you could always pair him in the future if you wanted too.

I thought i would update on the remaining multicolor angel. He is doing very well and eating just about everything now including flake and pellets. He is now in the tank with prazipro and i have not noticed any ill effects. Here are a few pics of him-Kieth

Here is an updated pic of the multicolor angel. He is still in qt and doing very well.I have not been real successful getting him to eat nori from a clip but he will eat omega one kelp flakes. He will also eat dwarf angel food so he is getting some sponge in his diet.

Very nice looking.

Mine was a bit confused about eating an algae sheet from a clip until it saw my Potter's doing it. Perhaps yours will be able to "learn" to do that once it is in the DT. (( Assuming that you have other fish that eat the sheets ))

Is there a company that makes food labeled specifically for dwarf angels?

Just curious, never seen it before.

Yes..Ocean Nutrition Pygmy Angel Formula.I am not sure how diffrent it is from the regular angel formula but i picked it up anyways and all the angels seem to eat it.

Cool, I'll have to check it out. None of the angels I've kept have been a big fan of ON angel formula, I have to trick them into eating it by cutting it up real small to resemble NLS pellets and feed it first ;)

Don't mean to highjack this thread...but I'm really interested in a Multicolor. How long has anyone kept this species alive? Size tank and tankmates? Thanks. Good luck! It's a beautiful fish.

The fish is now in the display tank and doing well.He is a very cool fish and i may try to pair him in the future. Here is a pic of him-Kieth

He looks awesome Kieth!!! Great work on getting one of them in there...

Pairing should be a snap if you can get another healthy one.
