There are a handful of longterm captive S. gigantea here on Reefcentral. I am sure that he can keep this one longterm. It look much healthier than any newly import (which it is not) S. gigantea I have seen.

gigantea home

the anemone is located at the viewing end of my island style aquarium so it's easily visible from three sides. It's presently taking mysids and cyclopeeze.

not only is my reef aquarium home to one beautiful Stichodactyla gigantea , but it is also home to many Stichodactyla tapetum (mini carpet anemones) as well.

I don't know, but I sure felt a little ignorant the other day. I was asking a guy about H. haddoni collection and he pronounced it huh-dough'-ni, with the accent on the dough. That is not the way I was saying it, but I realized that he was probably pronouncing it correctly and I was not. He was nice enough not to correct me.:hmm2:

Well... the syllable emphasis is correct, but the long o or short o is dependent upon the root word, since haddoni is not a true latin word. Since it is based on someone's name (Haddon) I think it would be pronounced huh-DAHN-ni, unless the guy's name has pronounced Hadone (with a long O).

Gigantea should be pronounced ghee-ghan-TAY-a. There are no soft g's in latin - they are always hard as in the word "good" - never like a j sound as in "giant".

For what it's worth - the letter j in Latin was always pronounced as y. So Julius Caesar should be pronounced YOO-lee-us KYE-sahr. Which, when you consider the sources of the Holy Roman Empire which covered a lot of current day Germany, was the source of the word "Kaiser". Bet no one thought they were saying "Caesar Wilhelm". Latin trivia can be so much fun

Wow someone else has one at last. My Gigantea was prevoiusly owned as well it got to large for the owners tank 18" plus. When I get some time I take some pictures but its emerald green and purple I have five black clowns that have taken up residence. The Gigantea seems to love the attention. Good luck with yours Ps get some thick gloves the stings really really hurt.
