marco dry rock is the way to go...
get the tank...with a tank that size you will probably have 2-3 sumps/fuges of hundreds of gallons each, can always keep sensitive things there...needs a qt system, lol, those always become dt....
Boxfish definitely in the lagoon. They're everywhere in the lagoons in FL. I suppose batfish and lions would fit the bill there too. Mostly larger, peaceful fish.
How much are you going to charge for admission to your aquarium?
Boxfish, Cowfish, Batfish, Lionfish in the Lagoon tank. This sounds great.
Yes! Really the only small fish ( frenches, queens, highhats, blues, etc.) we saw were in man made crates/blocks dropped in random areas( other than the reef). Didn't belong....
Naturally thought: Plenty of rays, boxfish, hamlets, juvi. tangs, etc...

What's your timeframe for completion? Excited to follow along. Post lots of pics once things get moving.
I have a totally off the wall idea for you for one of the tanks. I know you want boxfish, have you ever thought about cold water boxfish? Easily some of the prettiest fish available, period. If the tanks are acrylic, you could easily make one a cold water reef. Ornate boxfish, shaws boxfish, blue spot jawfish, Catalina gobies, deep water anthias. I would do that instead of the lagoon, if you are going to be doing that specifically for boxfish then you might as well get the prettiest ones around. Temperate reef fish are out of this world.
Wow, that IS a unique idea. I'd already been thinking of how best to pursue housing some of the rare and spendy cold/deep water angels and butterflies. A temperate reef would likely be an additional tank, as would a temperate FOWLR.
So the biggest decision for me has been to make the commitment to do extra-large FOWLR and Reef tanks, and get them going. These others will be supplemental 720g tanks as separate projects, and I suppose I'll do as many as necessary to ultimately house everything I want to keep.
Thanks. Love it.
You must live in a mansion! Haha.
But seriously, if I were you, I would just stick with the 4. You should be able to fit all the fish you want within those 4 tanks. If it were me, I would do 2 tropical fowlr( puffers/triggers, Angels/ butterflies), 1 tropical reef, and one temperate tank( fowlr or reef, you
Decide).
I just have a large finished basement I'm willing to devote primarily to the hobby. :fish1:
Right now, I'm thinking it may be best to combine the Triggers/Puffers and Angels/Butterflies in one 2150g.
Decisions, decisions. :wildone:
Yeah that would probably be the best option. Also keep in mind that it can be difficult to keep puffers together, in a tank that size you won't have the issues that other people have, but it would be a concern. What kind of puffers are you thinking of?
Reticularis
Mappa
Hispidus
Meleagris (4 variants)
Nigropunctatus (4 variants)
Diadematus
Immaculatus
Malinensis
Still researching availability for:
Carduus
Firmamentum
Gillbanksii
Inconditus
No Caeruleopunctatus or Stellatus. No Porcupines.
Honestly, I don't think there is any chance of that working out long term. Like zero. Not with that many. And so
Many species. I mean let's see what other people say, but I don't have a good feeling about it.
What are the issues with multiple puffers? This is one area of compatibility I didn't think was a problem.
When I had multiple puffers years ago, they were all super-chill.
