Multiple Large Tank Stocking Choices

What size tank and what puffers? Like I said, it may not be as much of an issue with a really large tank, but that is a lot and puffers are pretty solitary fish

Hispidus, multiple Meleagris, multiple Nigropunctatus in a 240g with 12 Triggers (Clown, Queen, Undulate, Redtooth, multiple Rhinecanthus, multiple Sufflamen, multiple Melichthys, multiple Xanthichthys).

I certainly don't want to be short-sighted. I truly am unaware of compatibility issues with multiple Puffers.

And they never fought? I honestly find that very surprising. I was in a lfs yesterday, one of their display tanks has a juvenile dogface and juvenile porky, it's a 210 gallon I believe. They both had bite marks on their sides,
Mainly the dogface, and they were locked up at the mouth when I was leaving.

Wow. Never once for me. My best friend who got me into marine aquaria also had multiple Puffers without incident for many years. And I've never encountered anyone who indicated Puffer issues.

The bully in that tank was... drum roll... the Redtooth Trigger.. And the Undulate Trigger was ultra-chill. The Whitetail Trigger was a little nippy, but not vicious.

Now I'm concerned about my thought-to-be-settled plans. :hmm3:

I mean it may not be a big deal, but if you are going to do it then I would get juveniles and let them figure it out. And watch out for fighting. But I have never kept puffers together that didn't fight atleast sometimes. Even little dwarf puffers and figure 8's.

I'm searching out some extensive Puffer info and advice online now. Thanks for the heads-up.

Change of plans. Again.

What started as two 1000g 8x4x4 tanks (one FOWLR, one Reef) morphed to four 720g 8x4x3 tanks before starting this thread.

With the introduction of the Lagoon concept and a future consideration for a Temperate FOWLR and/or Reef; more tanks had to be planned. And with the advice to go bigger rather than more tanks, it has become both.

Next was the plan to include multiple 2100g 12x6x4 tanks and others. Then came a private offer to acquire a collection of 16 rare Morays currently housed in 4 ~700g tanks.

So now I'm consulting to do a complete custom conversion of the entire 3,200 sq/ft finished walk-out basement, including substantial upgrades to electrical service and other dedicated systems for 20,000-30,000g of total tank capacity and 30,000-50,000g total system capacity for the following separate environments:

TROPICAL FOWLR SYSTEMx2
TROPICAL REEF SYSTEM
TROPICAL LAGOON SYSTEM

TEMPERATE FOWLR SYSTEM
TEMPERATE REEF SYSTEM
TEMPERATE LAGOON SYSTEM

MORAYS+ SYSTEM
GOBIES+ SYSTEM

SHARKS+ SYSTEM
'CUDAS+ SYSTEM

MULTIPLE OCTOPUS CYLINDER/CORNER TANKS

Thanks for the many contributed suggestions so far. :)

Glad to see that you looked into the temperate fish/ inverts. Hope it works out for you!!

HOLY ***

My lord.
You are crazy.
I absolutely love crazy. I'm following.
One thing I would suggest is to get Queen and Fuscus Triggers. I love those guys. Where are you located? I want to see this thing in person when it's done! Where are you planning on ordering the tanks? Or are you going to go superhuman DIY with this?

It took some prompting from you, so my humble thanks for that "push".

I've also realized how isolated these kinds of hobbies were pre-internet, which was when I was last in the hobby. I feel now as though I knew very little years ago compared to the readily accessible knowledge base now (especially for reefing).

Yes, I'm a Trigger freak from way back. There will most certainly be a Queen and Fuscus, as part of this whole stocking list:

FOWLR:
ABALISTES
Starry Triggerfish (Abalistes Stellatus)
BALISTAPUS
Undulate Triggerfish (Balistapus Undulatus)
BALISTES
Grey Triggerfish (Balistes Capriscus)
Finescale Triggerfish (Balistes Polylepis)
Goldenheart Triggerfish (Balistes Punctatus)
Queen Triggerfish (Balistes Vetula)
BALISTOIDES
Clown Triggerfish (Balistoides Conspicillum)
Titan Triggerfish (Balistoides Viridescens)
CANTHIDERMIS
Rough Triggerfish (Canthidermis Maculata)
PSEUDOBALISTES
Yellowmargin Triggerfish (Pseudobalistes Flavimarginatus)
Blueline Triggerfish (Pseudobalistes Fuscus)
RHINECANTHUS

Red Sea Picasso Triggerfish (Rhinecanthus Assassi)
Mauritius Triggerfish (Rhinecanthus Cinereus)
Tonga Triggerfish (Rhinecanthus Lunula)
Rectangle Triggerfish (Rhinecanthus Rectangulus)
Blackpatch Triggerfish (Rhinecanthus Verrucosus)
SUFFLAMEN
Whitetail Triggerfish (Sufflamen Albicaudatum)
Boomerang Triggerfish (Sufflamen Bursa)

Redtooth Triggerfish (Odonus Niger)
XANTHICHTHYS
Bluethroat Triggerfish-M/F (Xanthichthys Auromarginatus)
Outrigger Triggerfish-M/F (Xanthichthys Caeruleolineatus)

Sargassum Triggerfish (Xanthichthys Ringens)
XANTHICHTHYS HYBRIDS
Bluethroat x Crosshatch Hybrid (Xanthichthys Auromarginatus x Mento)
Redtail x Crosshatch Hybrid (Xanthichthys Lineolatus x Mento)

I'd include a Rhinecanthus Abyssus if there were any available in the trade.

Where are you located? I want to see this thing in person when it's done!

Two hours south of Chicago.

Where are you planning on ordering the tanks?

I started with the thought of all-glass units from customaquariums.com when I was planning 700-2100g units. I'm in due diligence mode to find the final source. I really want to do glass, but acrylic may be the only practical choice in the end.

Or are you going to go superhuman DIY with this?

I will likely hire virtually everything done. The project just exploded and is too big for me to design and implement myself.

Wow...

This will be awesome. Might I suggest one of these maybe? Probably would do well in a temperate tank. A lovely blue whale.

The Florida lagoon tank would also benefit from the addition of a manatee. Maybe a bonded pair?

Tempting, but the existing basement ceiling is simply too low; and I hear whales are a real menace to any rockscaping.
:eek1::D:bum::wildone:

The manatees might work until I went to federal prison for having them.
:crazy1::hmm5::uzi:

Alas, no aquatic mammals. Unless I happen onto an atypically benevolent mermaid at LA DD or BlueZoo.

Remember, temperate tanks will need to be acrylic so they don't sweat all day along and will act as insulation because I'm sure your basement won't be kept at 50 degrees :)

Yes, that's the inevitable choice for the temperate systems. I'd just still like to do glass for everything tropical if I can, but acrylic may be the better overall choice all around.

For so many massive systems, it probably would be

And... In the process of my due dilligence for the project, I'm finding some significant advantages to acrylic that I hadn't considered. Almost infinte shapes is one. I can do some crazy things with acrylic that is impossible with glass.
