Multiple Male Wrasses?!?

Well, waiting for more wrasses may not be the case. I have the chance to pick up a pair of Hooden Fairys. Anyone have any experience with them? I am also going to look to move the Cebu Pylei to a new home to remove any threat. Was thinking of asking maybe $20-$30 for it. That sound fair?

Also am able to get an Earle's. I have read they are very rare and expensive. Do they survive long in captivity? With a price tag like that they should live 10-20 years lol

Hooded are nice!...there are a couple variants.
Earlei unfortunately will not last longer than it's 'cheaper' cousins!

What variant is the better option in terms of color? Rarity?

Are you being offered a choice? I don't know that 1 is 'more rare' than the other, but color pattern/difference would be a personal preference.
I have a couple of juvi/females now and will be happy with whatever pattern they develop.

I've had a terminal male Vanuatu Hooded (C. bathyphilus) for almost a year now. Very mellow for a Fairy Wrasse. He's in my 125 with 6 other Fairy/Flasher Wrasses. Keeps to himself except when my C. laboutei tries to chase him around (he will chase him back). Definitely one I would recommend assuming the tank and tankmates are suitable. I prefer the looks of a the Vanuatu variety myself, though it is personal preference. Coral Sea variant is not as often collected IIRC, so is more rare to the trade.

As far as the lifespan, there is a thread on this forum about Fairy Wrasses. In general, it is believed they live 5-7 years IIRC. The problem is when you buy a full sized terminal male, you don't know its age and so it could only have a year or two left. These are not Tangs, Angels or Clowns that will live 20-40+ years in captivity. That is one of the reasons I prefer to buy juveniles (along with they are cheaper, and generally ship better).

The Coral Sea variant is not collected as frequently, so I suppose it's more "rare" in some fashion.
But I prefer the appearance of the Vanuatu variant.

If you guys could tell me how to add pictures from my computer that would be great. I'd love to share the pictures I have of my Flame and Rhomboid pair

Create a photobucket account (or other free photo sharing site). Then upload the pics to your account and just copy and paste the IMG URL (if there is one) into a new post and you are good to go.

oh wow! I just saw that. I may snag 2 females and wait for one to turn male. Is that advised and let nature take its course or should I get one female, wait for it to turn male then get a female and let them pair up?

Two females at once would be the better option there. But just a single female would likely transition on her own without a male present. It's also worth noting wrasses don't "pair up"; it's a dominant/submissive interaction.
