Multiple tangs in a 125g

Hey Jim,
I am by no means an expert but I did stay at a holiday inn express last night.
lol
I have kept multiple tangs presently Regal, Atlantic,Orange shoulder,and Sohal housed in a 7ft 210gallon with a gold puffer and a coris wrasse.
From the description of the three you want I am thinking Regal ,Atlantic and Yellow am I correct?
Either way is your 125 72" inches long because this would be best they love to swim.
I would put the regal first and make him a little bigger than the two to come. Make sure you have alot of hiding places big enough to accommodate anyone of the fish. Give him time to think he owns the place then add the atlantic wait for him to settle in then move all the rocks around and add the yellow. I think you could even add the Atlantic and yellow at the same time since we are talking small ones.

Best to get all at the same time this should help tried to add fish at a later time and did not work so good.

I have a purple, scopa and blue regal in my 75 gallon. As long as you add pretty close to the same time they should be ok. I also had a yellow at the same time but my damsel that I finally caught and got rid of killed it. What I have always went by is if you have 1 tang and you want multiple you must have an odd amount because they will chase each other and tire one another out. If you have an odd amount one can rest while the other two but heads on occasion. I'm not saying that they but heads all the time because mine stick to different sides of the tank and on an occasion but heads around feeding time. I know some people might think 75 gallons is too small for 3 tangs but my tangs are pretty young and I plan on upgrading in about a year or two to a 150 or 200 gallon tank.

Also make sure that they have a variety of foods and seaweed for a diet. That also seems to calm them down. I feed them red twig seaweed, nori, cyclopsis, myosis and even formula 1and2 pellets.

feeding question: should I get two vegi clips to avoid competing for the nori/seeweed? As for selecting a yellow tang; I always hear they are the most aggressive of all the tangs but also hear they eat more algae than any
of the others, so I'm not as sure of the yellow. My 125g is 72" x 24" x17" so hopefully have adequate room. Could take out some base rock if it gets crowded. Thanks again for all the inputs, Jim

It wouldn't hurt but I only have one clip. But make sure that after they stop picking at the nori to remove the excess because nori will release nitrates usually about 30 mins for my tangs. The yellow tang I personally should be the last tang introduced. Or all of them at the same time.

I'll pic up 2 vegi clips (just in case) and may back off on the yellow tang. The blue will get BIG (12") plus theCaribean blue will be yellow for a couple of years. I understand the yellow (being semi-agressive)won't like the Carabean. I'll remove the excess nori. Thanks, Jim

I have a yellow and kole tang in my 125 and they both hang out together all the time. I have nori rubberbanded to a single rock which they both share.

mnml, how old are the tangs? I'm trying to figure out if I include the yellow tang inn the threesome, would I get thru the adolescent stage but get into a problem when they get older. I still don't know how many years before they get to be adults. Is it 2 years? The AtlanticBlue will get to 12" but how long will that take?
Sorry for the questions but I still haven't got a good picture of the risk factors.

I would use two veg. clips, it would decrease the ammount of competition for food. My sailfin is the one who eats most of the nori. they are all the same size (2.5") except for my pac blue tang (5").

ok this is simple....tangs are people too and are all different.i had a 135 with 4 tangs and then my 260 i had 6 all were 5"s or more....yellows are aggresive and should be added last,purple are kind of aggresive in my opinion nasos and sailfins are perfect for peace.powderblues are beautiful but delicate so easy list is purple first then hippo then kole "simple but beautiful" then a naso for peace then a powderblue followed by yellow.my only problem is yellows are great for color but HELLO everyone has one like a mustang,boreing skip the yellow scrap the mustang and buy a bigblock camaro and move on trust me you wont regret it........oh wow i totally got off topic but oh well good luck and happy reefing......by the way as for feeding add more vegi clips so nobody fights

I had a Pacific Blue and a Yellow in my 90 for over 2 years, until the yellow mysteriously died, but to make a long story short the two got along great, and they both ate like pigs. All I feed my tank is Ocean Nutrition Prime Reef & Spirulina Flakes soaked in Vita-chem and Garlic Guard. Every other week or so I'd give them a little bit of Rod's Food as a treat.

I have 3 large yellow tangs 4-5" ( all the same size) all added at the same time in a 180g with 300-400 lbs of live rock. One get picked on so bad he comes out hiding just to get 20 seconds of food, then the others chase him back into hidding. Now the problem is how to get him out!

The Yellow is about 3" and the Kole 2". I think they're getting along since they were both housed in the same tank at the store. These 2 tangs weren't my first choice but they were some of the smaller variety. I didn't want to get a tang that would get too big for my tank.

Have you thought about adding a Foxface in place of the yellow tang? They are great algae eaters also..or so I hear. May be worth looking into as well

Then I assume you know you should be expecting some of your tangs to die. Even a large tank can seem small to the fish when they are overcrowded. It sounds like your tank is seriously overstocked. Especially with the clown tang in there. You said angels as in plural. How many do you have?

i just add them all at once never saw them fight and i have this tangs 3 years now!!!!
