Must-haves for EASY DIY controller?

Looks like the board that I have is from 11/10, and that the current version on the wiki is from 11/24. If I have been reading this thread correctly, the only real change is that U11 is actually on the top of the board, and the silkscreen on the board that I have is just on the wrong side.

Also found a note that some of the component identification numbers may have changed ?? I'm still trying to figure out how to hide the silkscreen of the Hydra, so this I can see the detail in Eagle.

If I have to follow the schematic in detail, I may be in for a bit of a struggle, but I'm up for the challenge.

The bom syncs with the latest version of the board ... correct ???

I'll take detail notes while I assemble ... maybe they will be useful as this project gradually moves from "under development" to "wow, this is easy!!".

And ... I will hopefully be able to make some significant contributions to the software side of the project.

Doesn't seem like anyone has spare ELN Shields. Does anyone have the gerber files that most of these PCB manufacturers want? Or could point me in the right direction of converting the Eagle files?

Well I've got hydra boards and relay board in the other day but am still awaiting my delivery from mouser, digikey took only 3 days but only ordered 4 items from them, hopefully the rest comes in today so I can start the soldering and my weekend build before the hunny dos come out.

Sorry guys, been going through two product launches at work and have no time for anything.

Female headers
MCP23008DIP18
18P IC Socket
DB9 Jack
NPN or PNP Transistors TO-92 package
The resistor and capacitor values and such can be gotten from the eagle files which I havent done yet

I haven't had time to fish through Digikey or Mouser to pull part numbers and make a nice BOM if anyone wants a crack at it by all means go for it. The DB9 connector comes from sparkfun BTW.

So what are you using to supply the power to the hydra?? I am unable to view on the google site. Anyone got a layout and picture

The way I am doing it is with the relay board. I have a regulated 12v 2 amp supply(regulated is the key part). I have that plug into the relay board to provide a 12v source for the chauvet relay strip. On the relay board is a 7.5v regulator (U1) with enough room for a heatsink. It drops the voltage down enough to provide a supply for the hydra board. This was the simplest way I thought to do everything.

I have the hydra and relay board in my project box. I have a single 12v power supply bringing power in. I have a single DB9 Serial cable going from the project box to the chauvet relay strip. Nice and clean.

Nautica / Dustin,

Thanks for your effort building the BOM for the relay board! I'll be ordering the parts and will reply my comments when completed/tested. Regards!

If anyone has an extra relay board please PM me, I can send you one back when my order come in. Should be a few weeks.

We'll worked on and off this weekend on the Hydra, finished it sunday morning except I came up short on my Bom didn't order enough 49.9 R so I need to get one more for R9, plus had the wrong part for U12, had old Bom but have now ordered the right parts plus the bom for the relay board, should be here wednesday.

I'm in exactly the same place, and I had exactly the same issue with the missing 49.9. Plus -- I'm missing one entire pack of 4 resistors. They were on the packing list, but at assembly time, I just can't find them. $1 for parts, $2 for postage to get them. LOL

Have fun with your build.

Fry's should have those parts. If they were on the packing list and you don't have them, call the supplier. They should ship them out to you for free.

Have to blame it on myself for not checking all 52 items on the packing slip. Its probably somewhere here, just not where I can find it. Likely mixed in somewhere with the three other electronics projects that are currently under construction. They are already on the way, should have them in a day or two.

I like the instant turnaround and actual cost of postage from DigiKey. Not the original supplier, but think I will be using them more in the future.
