Must-haves for EASY DIY controller?

Should be less than $80 for all the components, board and shipping. Prices will vary depending on your source and whether you can get it from a single source or multiple.

Looks like a GREAT project - I've been out of the DIY reef loop for a while, and now it looks like a good time to jump in!

First question is (since after going through quite a few pages of posts) is there a source for the raw boards - or is it a take the gerbers and go from there (and throw a set onto my fall china order)

(I'm familiar with the hardware setup - some of you (as I've seen some links) have seen some of my work on the DIY Christmas sites)

Wow guys, great thread. One problem though. I am having trouble opening the Hydra BOM. It's opening a file with a few folders in it, and when I try to extract, it comes out with more things that do not work. Can someone help me, or PM me the list or something?

After reading this thread for the last several days I thought I should register and say hi to everyone here and also to take my hat off to the guys invloved in this project...it is awesome !!
Would any of you kind gents in the US be willing to sell a hydra and relay board...
in UK here :)

Sorry for the delay, I haven't been getting e-mails of replies.

I don't have any issue opening the hydra BOM. Are you getting it from this page? http://code.google.com/p/hydra-reef/source/browse/trunk/hardware/hydra/bom.xlsx

Here's a direct link to try: http://hydra-reef.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/hardware/hydra/bom.xlsx

Do you have microsoft excel installed? If so what version?

EDIT* As I'm going to be using the meanwell ELN-P's an ELN shield board would be handy also :)

Yeah, sorry about that guys. I think life was getting the best of us. I know I'm looking to get back after it soon once I sort out some things occupying most of my time.

For anyone looking for information without digging around too much, we do have a wiki setup with most necessary information. www.hydra-reef.com

Hi DustinB

Have perused that wiki at some length ...reason i was asking if any of you guys had any spare boards for sale (hydra board, relay board and an ELN shield) is because in the UK just to have one of those boards made is gonna coat me £30 or nearly $49 on the same note if I was to order them from seeed (no less than 10) thats around $25 x 3 for each board, thats $75 and i only need 1 of each...to post to uk would be a couple of dollars. So, even if I have to end up ordering 10 of each board from the US and even with postal cost its still much much cheaper than here.

Alright, I finally got to paint my hydra box and finished all IO ports that I planned to get out for now, which includes: PWM pins for LEDs, I2C for realys, 1-wire for temp probes, Ethernet and ph probe. Not to forget the 2 programming ports as well.

terahz,

That looks great! But if I remember correctly, you are using an IR remote. Where is the IR receiver located? Externally?
