My 10G nano Project Underay - Lots of Pictures!!!!!!

I think you should try and get some loc-line fittings and aim the output down more so all the flow isnt at the top, although it is good to have surface agitation.

Hi Thanks guys Henry the plumbing i have used can be rotated 360* so i can point it anyway, as at each end of the 45 it alows you to rotate it very handy indeed.

Hi so ive begun my pico project today, bought another tank 12" x 8" x 8" for my office pico this will tide me over untill i get my 10G nano up and running as i think im going to just buy a MH pendant but im pretty skint just now just bought a newish car and insurance etc and being a student dosnt help either so this is what i done today.

Here is the old tank i had before i cut it up for an equipment chamber fudge at the back of the tank guess its kinda the same setup as my 10G

and heres the tiny sump fudge

I have also built a little stand canopy which i sprayed black today however the finish was really poor due to it being quite cold and the paint dryed in all crackled, so this needs to be stripped and painted again. Will post pics when it is done as it looks awfull just now.

Hello people long time no post. So ive managed to sort a few things out first ive built painted ang got all the equipment for the office pico although it is not set up yet im struggling to find time so ive taken a photo with my 8" cube in it as im so fustrated about seeing a fish swim. Eventually it will be a 12" tank in their

In between working on the office nano i have finally managed to get my hands on a 70w metal halide. Its all wired up and working now. The setup came with a remote ballast with a quick disconnect feauture it was all pretty much prewired all i had to add was a power cord.

The problem i have now is what sort of lamp fixture do i use as i have a pendant and a reflector fixture take a look at the pictures. And how do i mount this in my hood there always seems to be a hurdle to get over in this project.

Here is a shot of the ballast wiring
marine_log_68.jpg

Just starting up the lamp has a nice cool blue colour to it
marine_log_69.jpg

Option 1

This is the pendant im talking about
marine_log_70.jpg

Ideally i would like the lighting fixture to be inside the canopy again just to give a clean setup look
marine_log_71.jpg

Just cant see how i would be able to mount it in the canopy any ideas on this
marine_log_72.jpg

Option 2

Here is the reflector type fixture which i ahve temporly mounted in the hood but not sure how to mount it properly again any ideas welcome

Hi,
I have a question, how did you make your teeth for your overflow? It looks perfect. I'd love to know how you did that please. Tank is looking good. I remember this tank from a while ago. It seems like you are having the same problem as me. My 40 breeder has been sitting here all summer. lol So how did you make those teeth?

can i ask where did you get your 18w luminaire from? It looks really nice! (I'm in the UK too)
Great looking tanks btw, you obviously have a flare for DIY :)

Hi thanks

Enraged it just happens too be that the other side of the reflector is mirrored but still has the blue protective film over it so i took a photo of the other side.

Marinegirl I used a router to make the round holes at the bottom then used a jig saw to cut the teeth out i then used the router to smooth the edges that the jigsaw left. Reason being i used the jig saw was because i couldnt be bothered making a template /jig for the router.

Fras I got the light from a guy on ebay will give you details later.

Cheers

i love your tanks, i would go with Option 2.
i hope everything works out for you. can't waiting to see it finish.

Hi all

Santas been good to me over xmas recieved some stuff for the tank. Pictures as follows, as you may no when the camera comes out i like to make it worth while and tend to be a bit snapper happy.

Heres the equipment i have added to my tank.

Got a dog in a box today nah kidding but he likes to investigate everything.

Well Today i have officially dipped my feet into the saltwater.Got two little bits of live rock today about 1.5kg or so all together everything is up and running now, Thanks God heres some pics.

Mixing the salt in 5mins with a paint mixing drill bit.

marine_log_93.JPG

RO water bucket just added the salt

marine_log_94.JPG

And heres the salt mixing in action, in an article i read by some chemistry dude who done some tests on mixing salt it was said that the faster the salt is mixed and used the better as something in the salt dosnt get a chance to evaporate if its done quick, and he found that by mixing it with an electrick drill and a proppeller turned out the best how do you guys do it. so i guess this is how i chose to do it that way

Believe it or not this is my 100th photo and i think its a nice one too no diy stuff. Anyway on a visit to the pet shop to get a net i seen a little bit of live rock i liked so decided to get it. Wow this hobby is very impulsive and addictive im gonna be satying out the LFS as much as i can. Untill i at least start my new job after uni. Im only gonna buy live rock when i see nice pieces as its taken me this long so far so dont mind waiting a bit longer to get it the way i want think im gonna have two islands one bigger than the other.

Pointed one of the pump outlets upwards for a bit of surface aggitation.

Thanks for all the help so far

Nice job! I read the whole thread! It beats reality TV.

Just watch the heat given off by that MH. Once you start stocking the tank and that skimmer starts developing foam, the last thing you want is HEATED skimmate. You'll come home and the whole house will smell of dead fish. -yuck!

Also I think someone else said it earlier, but all those 90 angles really cut down on your flow and make your pumps work harder. LocLine's are rigid yet flexible and have a variety of end nozzle attachments to direct the flow.

http://www.modularhose.com

I look forward to the next step of your project. :)

Yes i am experiancing a bit of heat issues when the MH is on so im about to get some quiet pc fans. it sits at 82F when MH is on and drops to 79 when off

but i also plan on putting a bit of acrylic as a heat shield aswell so it acts as a thermal mass and blow fans on to this not sure if it willl work but will give it a try as i dont want lots of evaporation. Im gonna run my skimmer when the MH is off and thanks for pointing that out.

Yes i was looking at getting some of those lock line hose's. Looks neater aswell however there seem to be enough flow with the two pumps turned up at max think each one is about 1200l.

Oh and last night i spotted my first two hitch hikers a featherduster tube, and some tiny little shrimp it kinda looked like a mantis shrimp when i fist seen it but on a second inspection im not sure its a clear pinky colour will try n get a photo of it its the size of a grain of rice.

Cheers
