My 1165 Gallon in-wall Display Tank project

As a matter of fact there is a thread right under this one titledGabiel's new 300 gallon ENVISION tank. Look at the tank, James built it to.

James is the builder I have been speaking with. I didn't want to mention who it was in case for some reason I don't go with him as he has been extremely helpful and knowledgeable.

The tank will be very heavily braced including a brace along the length of the tank in the center due to the larger depth. I have a feeling it is the additional bracing that is allowing the 1" to be used. He even mentioned if I recall correctly that 3/4" could be used for the sides. Not 100% sure on that but it will be 1" around regardless.

Did not mean to be confusing just didn't want to name someone before being sure I was going with them.

that basement is bigger then my house

Thanks :) I think it will come in somewhere around 2000 sqft of finished space down there but possibly a bit less due to the utility area.

Ah thats the reason, I understand now. My tank is the standard opening not with all the bracing.

He is currently building me a 72 x 36 x 25 Refuguim and a
72 x 30 x 25 sump

Great guy to work with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very nice sump & fuge. I'm wondering if I should go with a bigger sump. I'm toying with the layout a lot.

James has been great so far. I'm pretty much settled on him :)

I would , The more system volume the better. I wanted a Refugium that would actually make a diff.

The bottom will have a 6" DSB, Eggcrate will be put above it for a cryptic zone (you know sponges etc) Then a section for live rock rubble in the middle, and then 6" on top for the micro algae. Ask james about the design if you like.

The refugium will be about 280 gallons!!!!!!!!

The sump will contain A calcium reactor, chiller returns , etc etc etc.

ON protein skimmers -- check out Lifereefs 72" protein skimmer. Extremely efficient and only about 1200.00 Yes it is 6 feet tall. He also makes a great Calcium reactor for about 500.00.

NJRC is in the process of doing a PremiumAquatics group buy (for members) with 15% off and free shipping... Just in case you need anything!

WOW. That's going to be some tank. Where in NJ are you? I'd love to see this monster in action when you get it up and running!

This has got to be the largest private reef in NJ I have seen.

Good luck and looking forward to the build!!

looks like a great plan. for reference I just received a bid from Tenecor to build a 17' L x 4 'W x 30" H tank and they plan to use 1 1/4" acrylic. Use sch 80 bulkheads for your closed loops, you won't have any problems. For added flow I use a pressure pumps (Pan World 250's) and have eductors and the ends of the CL and Sump returns, they make a huge difference in flow and agitation. Going deeper than 30-32 inches is difficult to reach the bottom, I'm 6'4" and I can barely reach the bottom of my 300, which is 30" deep.

Here are some things to look at for water flow throughout your aquarium.

Tunze 6301 Stream - 7,925gph, WavySea Plus+ - 3,600gph and Oceans Motions 4way or 8way will need pumps.

I just talked to James this week about building me a 60"L x 48"W x 24"H aquarium out of 1" acrylic with euro-bracing.

You can see more details of this tank in this thread:

Thanks! Very nice and very clean. I may wind up with something pretty similiar :)

I will check it out for sure but I'm almost set on the Deltec.

Hi Phyl,

I plan to be a member very soon :) Is there a limit or any restrictions to this group buy?

Thanks,
John

Hi John,

I talked to James today at Envision. HEE HEE you are right. I just didn't understand what he was telling me. When he told me any longer and we would have to go up in size, I thought he meant 1-1/4" Acrylic.

What he meant was a longer piece of acrylic 10 ft sheets as opposed to the 8' sheet he is using for my tank. You are right no problem using 1". Also he told me about all the extra bracing on your tank and the fact that you would have a catwalk on the tank to be able to access the depth of the tank. SWEET!!! I can't wait to get my sumps and Tank.

Hey good luck and keep us posted. Aslo let me know what you decide on the refugium, sump, and protein skimmer. Hey I'm like you learning as I go. Thanks for sharing your tank build with us.
