My 1165 Gallon in-wall Display Tank project

What made you choose the deltec over the 650 BK,Id love to see that skimmer!!! Im sure the deltec is awsome though, must have been the SCH???

Hey Gabriel,

How does the peformance and noise of the Red dragon compare to the Sequence pumps? After owning one do you think they are worth the extra money?

Hi John,

I talked to James today at Envision. HEE HEE you are right. I just didn't understand what he was telling me. When he told me any longer and we would have to go up in size, I thought he meant 1-1/4" Acrylic.

What he meant was a longer piece of acrylic 10 ft sheets as opposed to the 8' sheet he is using for my tank. You are right no problem using 1". Also he told me about all the extra bracing on your tank and the fact that you would have a catwalk on the tank to be able to access the depth of the tank. SWEET!!! I can't wait to get my sumps and Tank.

Hey good luck and keep us posted. Aslo let me know what you decide on the refugium, sump, and protein skimmer. Hey I'm like you learning as I go. Thanks for sharing your tank build with us.

Ken

Yep, he keeps telling me I'll be able to walk/lay on it. I'll be nervous about it but I'm sure I'll spend a lot of time laying over so I can stretch down into it. There will be a 12" or so catwalk built around the 3 sides in the fish room at stand height in order to make getting on it easier.

I'm not 100% decided yet but getting close. The SCH as well as the flushing system are definitely playing a factor. I'd love to do both and have it flush right into the line to the injector pump.

Thanks for catching that he has both pump types :) I'm very interested to hear the answers to these also as they will hopefully finalize my skimmer decision :)

Gabriel, thanks :) The house is a little under 5000sqft without the basement.

A few more basement pics with the fisheye:

A shot down the main hallway. You can see the tank hole down the end on the right.

A photo of the room the tank will be viewable from with tank hole on the right. The battery died after this one :( I'll grab a few more shots of this room from the other side once its charged up.

closed l;oops don't have to go through the bottom of the tank. That's just a common installation method but you can easily go over the top. My tank is set behind the wall and 6" on each end is hidden and has piping. Thay way it can't be seen from the viewing. Anyway, that would be one way to keep the leak risk down. YOu can PM me for more discussion about that.

Also, there are better skimmers at better price points than the Deltec, but the SCH is really sweet.

Have you decided to go with acrylic tank? I decided to use starphire for the ease of cleaning and I am so happy that I went with glass.
If mine tank was made of acrylic, it would not be running today.
The coraline algae is almost impossible to get them all out on acrylic, in particular when the tank is getting established. When I got back from being away for the summer, it took two people and 6 dives to get all the coraline algae cleaned off the wall.

Just mine personal experiences. Good luck with the tank and it would be awesome I am sure.

Albright, would you consider shifting the tank to the left all the way to the corner and making it 2 sides viewable? 66" width would be amazing to see.

I have a CL on my (much smaller) tank and am happy with it. No problems to date, I do see adding 2 Vortechs down the road once the new controllers are readily available. I'm in the town next door (Millstone) if you want to check it out.

JNAROWE,

YOU'RE TANK IS GREAT. I get great idea's from you for my tank all the time. Gladd you take the time to help the rest of us.

no sweat. there's something to learn from everyone, no matter how minor it may seem. I have had some great mentors and I highly recommend that as an integral part of anyone's reefkeeping adventure.

I may do drains on the back fairly high up. With the 66" depth they should be difficult to notice. I'd also like to have a few per loop to lower the suction they create.

And thanks :) I might be hitting you up soon for some tips. I have read through your thread a few times :)
