My 120 SPS tank growth shots and top-downs

bwyoung,

What media are you running in the PM reactor in your sump. Also, how are you running it. Is it on 24/7 or do you take it off line at some point. Thanks.

I am using the Bulkreefsupply.com ROX 0.8 High Performance Carbon. I have a 600 lph maxijet pumping into it 24/7. I change it every 8 weeks or so.

I took it out a couple weeks back and got distracted so I did not put it back in until this past weekend.

What a beautiful tank. Your rock set up looks alot like ours, too bad our corals are not growing as well!

Thank you. The fish like the center cave to hang out in the dark and hide.

I think I will be posting coral frags in the for sale section soon. My Sailfin Tang and Hippo Tang will be running out of room shortly. Should have gone with that 300 gallon tank!

Here are some cabinet pictures.

I ended up pruning and creating about 20+ frags of the large milli to make room for its tank-mates.

I'll take some more close-ups shortly.

2 part + Mg.

What is + mg? What are you using for magnesium. I currently use 2 part son my tanks (I service tanks) and am wondering what you use.e for magnesium additive.

I am going to be doing a 90gal display with basement filtration. 29gal refugium and 40gal breeder sump. It should be nice. We are going to be doing LED lighting to reduce heat. I am not sure if we will be doing LPS or SPS yet. most of my tanks I end up doing LPS for the sake of money and the customer doesn't want to be putting to much time into the tank. But if this one wants to we may go for SPS.

You have a beautiful set up and nice filtration.

Updates... (From June 2010!)

Here are a couple shots from this week even after a moderate fragging fest. Time to put some up for sale. Enjoy!

Pretty incredible growth in your tank. Congrats. Especially from May to November 2009, huge change for such a short period of time. Amazing. Keep it up!

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. The reef has picked up speed on the growth recently too. I am about to perform a "major" fragging event.

I do frag many of these - the center caps, the right side millis (since they tend to kill anything around them anyways), the acros on the left side too. I have a sump of frags and have ran out of room to support them.

My flow has been altered quite a bit with the coral growth. I have added another mag pump to help it out, but I would have to almost tear it down to get the major flow back. Also my sailfin tang and hippo tnags are getting big and am running out of swim lanes.

I'll try to add some more pictures of it over the Thanksgiving holiday. If you have any other questions about it, just let me know!

Hello,

Here are some shots of my first reef tank that I have had running since March of 2008. It has come a long way. I have been meaning to post some updates for a long time. I do not post often (yet), but have been researching here for 2+ years.

I appreciate everyone here for the information and help to make my "conversion" from fresh to salt reefs a reality!

And to think going into this I wanted to be a softies or LPS type tank. SPS rocks!

I'll post some SPS ID queries in the ID section too as there are many types I have not indentified yet. If you have any questions or comments, pplease let me know.

Thanks!
