For those of you, who have kept up with my project, here's an update:

I'm STILL battling a bit of cyano problem, but still haven't pulled the trigger on using ChemiClean. Nothing has shown up on the sand, just on the Pukani, so I'm scrubbing and syphoning every 3 days. I have cut back on my feedings and have changed out the T5's.

I thought it would be kinda cool to show, a 5 month "now and then", so here it goes:

First shot, starting my cycle. Heck, even the trim wasn't in place::

Now. 3 Green Chromis, 2 False Percs, 1 Yellow tang, 1 Starry Blenny, various corals and lots of re-adjustment on my Live Rock:

The sump.

How it looked when I first added my Chaeto. Nice and clean:

The sump now, Chaeto growing like crazy. I turn it every weekend, when I change out the filter sock. I still keep up on cleaning it:

It looks very nice to me erock! I've always wanted to have an aquarium in a wall. I think it looks great! Nice job since I see in the thread - this was no small task!

Really nice build! Looks like a ton of work - congratulations!

Had 3 things to add:

1) Your tank had nitrites a while back, and you have problem algae - did those go back to zero?
2) What are your phosphate levels?
3) For Tubastrea (snu corals), a trick I read about was to place a clear bowl, inverted, over the coral that has a single hole small enough for the turkey baster/syringe/whatever. You then squirt the food, which swirls around the bowl, but it doesn't get eaten by fish/shrimp/et cetera or diffuse in the water as the bowl prevents that. After the coral is fed, you take the bowl away for the next feeding.

Hope this helps!

Well,

Cyano.

I came home from work today and it was back on the rocks and now starting on a part of the sand. I have been scrubbing and syphoning, just to have it return the next day. I just did it last night and it's back and stringy, in the same places. The pictures are only a part of what can be seen.

I was holding off on treatments, seeing if I could get it under control, but no luck. I will be using ChemiClean tomorrow. I don't want to wait for it to get really out of hand. I will let it do its thing and do a water change Saturday.

Here is where I stand, as of today:

Nitrites: 0
ALk: 3.42 KH:9.6
CA: 490
Phos: 0
Sal: 1.024
Temp holds steady at 79* F

T5's:
2 ATI Aquablue Special
2 ATI Blue Plus
2 Geisemann Pure Actinic

I Finally have won the first battle, with Cyano, I'm sure there will be more down the road.

So, here's an update...everything is still alive, kickin' and growing well. I have a new addition, to my reef. A Flame Angel.

My Yellow Tang is actually very territorial (not to any of the other residents) and is keeping an eye on the Flame.

Almost got the whole group in 1 picture:

I got a small frag of Maz-oes, from a friend. Growing nicely. Looks like they're going to take up the whole piece of LR:

Full Reef shot. I think my Flame Angel, is done hiding in the rocks. It's finally time to come out and play. 11/7/12:

Well,

It's been a while since I have updated so here I go:

Sorry to say that, I have lost my Flame Angel. I came home from work the other day and found my Electric Blue Crab on him.

I removed the Flame, from the tank and looked at him closely. No signs of disease but the blue color on his tail fin, has been nibbled at. I suspect that he and the Yellow Tang weren't getting along. He was eating fine, at all times, so I suspect bullying. Very sad because, he was very colorful (even when I found him)

All other fish are doing great. Coral is doing fine (again except for the monti frags which are still browning out) but continue to grow and attached on the Pukani.

My Zoas are doing GREAT! Spreading quickly especially the frag, I got from a friend.

Still dealing with Diatoms on the sand but has ceased on the LR. Tank is still a baby, I think. Hopefully, it will pass. I am just amazed and how many transitions, this tank has gone through. Ugly..then nice...ugly, then nice again. I will just it do its thing and not mess with it.

Getting a large amount of Coralline growing on my overflow box and tons of pineapple sponges, on the backside of the overflow.

It is great that you can hid everything except the tank from the front. Nice job.

Why do you have the temp probe in the tank? I would put it in the overflow box or in the sump. High flow there will ensure correct temp reading and also out of sight.
I put the heater in the pump chamber of the sump and the probe in high flow area up stream from the heater.

I was going to put the heater, in the return pump section, but there is not enough room. Tried all different directions..still can't do it. This was my plan until I actually HAD the heater, in my possesion. Go figure, planned too small. I have the probe, in the tank, to get a good reading of what the temp is in the display tank.

If I put it in the overflow, I don't think I would get a correct reading, with the heater being in there. I figured, mid way down, in the DP close to the overflow, would give me the best reading. I didn't want it in the sump, being close to the ground. I do have one of those suction cup types, to get a reading in the sump. Just to see the variance.

Just read through your entire thread, this is a great tank!! Loving the progress...

Be sure to keep us updated!

Update for the new year....

Coralline algae is starting to grow like crazy (especially on the overflow, not so much on the back glass) which is a good thing.... and fighting another outbreak of Cyano. My diatom issue seems to be under control, after adding another Hydor to the tank, for flow.

I added some Star Polyps, to the overflow box today. I did a water change and attached them, while the level was low in the tank.

As of 1-20-13,

I have changed my lamps and extended my lighting period. I also moved my Rainbow Monti, to the bottom. It's finally getting color back. A bit hard to tell, from this pictures but the polyps are coming back and turning green .

My Sunset seems to like the new lighting adjustments also.
