Bill, pics are looking really good! Based on what I've seen in person, your WB is pretty darn bang on in those pics above. Did you use a tripod for these, or hand held? Which body did you end up getting, 60D?
Looks great Bill but im gonna go a head and disagree with Jordan. The WB is close but i thknk those pics could be warmed up a tad and you will see more pop but truer color on a few of those like the yellow you are talking about.

You might get a bit further balanced pics with tweaking WB in post, but those will be fairly minimal in my opinion... nothing wrong with the yellows here...
Regardless, nice shots Bill, to nail things so close right of the start IMO is pretty impressive.
The input is great fellas, thanks.
I have yet to try Shooting in RAW then post processing. I assume this will help me get the shine, pop or life the photos are missing. They seem flat to me.
The 20D sure was a steal and hopefully we get good enough to justify something like the 6D. We went in to purchase the 60D but my daughter really liked the 7D and especially the feel of the 6D, which was even lighter. So we discussed trying something out first just to make sure the extra spent between something like the 60D and the 6D would be worth it to us. I am glad we went this route and I am sure the 60D would have been fine, but that nagging "what if" feeling is something I would rather live without.
I will post more pics soon. Going to scout out PhotoShop Elements and Lightroom 4

Getting a close WB match off the camera is a very large part of the battle, I agree with that. Here is what I'm talking about. I slighting adjusted this photo just using sliders on windows picture viewer. Im basic and have learned to use simple tools. My total knowledge is not even close to Jordans though.

and my slightly adjusted version

Would you say mine is closer to what you see?
On my screen your adjustment shows a little more colour but not on the body of the acro. In my tank this particular colony has very bright yellow tips and a nice yellow body/base. I think it must be shadow that just gets more enhanced or brown as the colour gets boosted. Somehow I have to get more light in that photo by either slowing the shutter speed or playing with the ISO.

It could be the angle the picture was taken vs. the angle which you normally look at it. Im assuming its near the bottom and you are standing. Also contrast could do what your describing sometimes. On my screen your adjustment shows a little more colour but not on the body of the acro.
