My 225 Log

Can be... Too close and obviously it will melt and/or the acrylic can craze and weaken... Too far away and you will have an unbalanced lighting effect. You may want to have another piece of acrylic made that matches exactly like your top and then space it 1/4" or so above your tank. Then it would act like a heat shield and any damage done would be to the extra acrylic, not the tank.

This was suggested to me when I was setting my tank up and well... I still have not got around to doing it

So your sayin I shouldnt worry about it.;) I guess it will depend on how high I place them.

My MH are not directly over the acrylic, so I had a bit of leeway. Melev is the one who suggested it on my tank with the VHOs as close as they are. I think in your case, better that the MH above the acrylic be too far away, rather than too close.

I'm sure if you cruised some build threads the situation has been encountered both positively and negatively and then overcome.

But after ten months there has been no crazing found yet:)

haah, that skimmer was mine a while back....was it you that bought it from me? kinda weird to see it again.

No, are you sure? The person I bought it from said he got it directly from MRC. Hmmm....

I think I am going to get some square aluminum to mount the lights to so they are all on the same bracket. Hard to explain but it should be together soon.

I still have not figured out how to get these 100+lb base rock pieces in the tank.

Man, that tank looks sweet!!!

Thanks, although I just noticed you can see the water lines. I need to clean it lol.

Well after a long evening I was able to replace the plywood with something I am more comfortable with. I emptied the tank and put a 3/4" piece (could not find 1") of plywood down. I also replaced the white 1" foam with a 1/2" piece of the pink insulation. This does create a problem with it being BB though. LOL I was also able to get 2 of the big dry rocks in the tank and nearly complete the light bracket. I will post some pics later tonight of the progress.

Also note I did not aquascape anything yet. I just threw the rocks in there. And I almost killed myself putting the bigger rocks in haha.

Nice setup! Can't wait to see it when it's done! Sure you can't either lol! BTW I PM'd you a ?, hoped I could get your opinion. Thanks, and keep up the good work!

Resurrection!

Resurrection!

Well I had to "sidetrack" the hobby a few months ago due to a promotion. Well as of the last month or so I changed jobs all together. Which means I will have a lot more free time available. ( Yeah for weekends off again!) So I will be setting up the original 225 finally. I did sell some of the equipment but most of it remains. However this time I will be remodeling the basement as well. I figure if I'm going to do it I may as well do it right. The tank will be in-wall with 2 sides viewable and have its own "tank room" behind it. The basement deconstruction starts this weekend, and I will be sure to post some pics.

And some pics!

The basement "bedroom" coming out. (Forgot to get a pic before i started ripping out drywall)

Thats all I could get finished tonight, hope to progress some more over the weekend. Thanks for looking.

Just the other day I was wondering what happened to this thread:) Welcome back!

Made some good progress over the weekend. The room is all framed and drywall will go up tomorrow. I will also post some new pics tomorrow, I feel like death atm lol. Getting too old for this stuff. (yea, yea just kidding)
