Geeze, just over three years, and it still isnt done. The tank was coming along nicely and the WAM, it crashed. For the last 2 years I have just let it run as is. But about a month ago I decided to get it back into shape. I started a few threads here and there about my problems. I am slowly working out the chemistry issues I think. The biggest driving force behind the sudden desire to get it nice again is my 6month old. He loves to swing in his chair and watch the few fish that are left.
After a few overflows of the sump and skimmer the wife agreed to let me move the sump and all into the garage. The tank is against the garage wall. It will not be a room like many here have, more like a closet. But it will be bigger than the wife thinks. I also have to contend with the garage door track, in the end I think the "closet" will be about 4'-5' deep.
The wife won't let me open the wall behind the tank so I am gonna have to pass all the plumbing and wiring through the wall. I am going to have a new sump made, gonna contact melev about that. I am gonna reuse my gallon fuge from my current setup and add a few more tanks as well. I recently replace my jbj nano with Current Solana, so I am gonna use that tank as well. I also have a 30 gallon cube that I bought as a QT tank that I never use.
In addition to that I am gonna upgrade my skimmer, been leaning towards an Orca at the moment. Gonna upgrade the pumps too, I have Red Dragon 10M3's at the moment, but I am gonna go with 12M3's instead. The tank is 22" deep I think, so for some reason that seems like a good depth for the shelves. I am going to have to get some electrical work done to add some circuits, gonna need another breaker box as the builder left no open slots for expansion. I also need to get the generator, I have been delaying for as long as the tank has been up, to this point I have been lucky with no extended power failures.
I have a Teco chiller on its way, very excited about it too. The Solana was running warm, but I added a Tunze Aquawind and now it pretty stable at 76.5-79 during the peak of the day, instead of 84. My big tank is at 84-85 this year, never had that before.
The cabinet will about 10' long. I will have 3 shelves, one at ground level, one at the foundation level, and one above that. The ballasts for my MH's and the T5 retrofit I am planning will me on a shelf above the closet.
Well thats all I can think of to write about at the moment. My biggest hurdle at the moment is the sump design. Since the red dragons are submersible I want them to be mounted in the sump. I am gonna try and make up a sketch of the plumbing situation as that also concerns me. I want it to be clean and functional. Comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
