My 280g Custom upgrade.....

I definitely havent given up keeping sps. As frustrating as it is....this is my therapy. It will all fall into place sooner or later. I dont have any recent FTS because it really looks like a fish only tank with some lps scattered around and some pathetic looking sps at this point. The tank definitely isnt where I wanted it to be at this point but by no means am I giving up.

Ive taken the scrubber off of the tank for now and Ive been working on my own lighting program which includes reducing the overall intensity of the light. The 10w xml white cree leds really pack a powerful punch.

Understood. I've been battling some bleaching due to my LEDs and cranked back the photo periods to 5 hours as of yesterday to gain some of the color back. Also feeding heavily to bring the nutrients up. We're all just trying to figure out our tanks! Once I get this system "working" I'm sure when I plumb in 600 I'll be figuring out a thousand other issues!

Everyone is so preoccupied with par numbers when it comes to LEDS. Apogee even came out and said that their meters dont measure blue LEDS properly and the values are under estimated. Im running my whites at 55%, green at 30% and all other colors max 80%. All of the colors only run at peak values for about 1 hr before they begin to ramp down. The maker of my light has revamped their software and will launch a new version where I can select the K temp from as low as 10k to as high as 26k. Im anxious to see how that works. Im already noticing improvement in my lps with the lower intensities.

I saw this on someone else's tank and really wanted to try it out. I was able to find someone selling one that was BNIB. I hooked up my Tunze 6095 to it using a 1" coupling and some zip ties. My next step will be to look for black pvc fittings because this thing is awesome!!!! I might even get one more!!! I see "stuff" being blown out from rocks and in caves.

Sea swirl deluxe with some tunzes are likely in my future. You will have to keep us updated on how you like them.

I really like it!!!! Its only been one day but I have noticed a significant improvement in the way my duncans look. they look twice the size now that they arent constantly getting blasted. I also noticed an improvement in my ph levels and think it might be from the additional aggitation at the surface. I like it so much, I ordered a 2nd one today!!!!

Congrats on the purchase Steve. Just be aware as the guy from Sea Swirl said that after a while the cord starts to frey from the continuous operation. It won't happen immediately but way down the road.

I could see that happening with time, so maybe some ground plugs are a good idea:) I thought the cord ran through the shaft on these new models?

The guy that is using these already said that he puts airline tubing around the tunze power cord and it cuts down on the amount of friction and twisting on the power cord. Since I am using the Tunze mounting bracket theres no way to run the cord up the shaft unless you modify the bracket and make the hole on the bracket bigger. I am working on a couple of things because I would like to hide the cord as well as do anything I can to extend the life of the cord.

FedEx Friday is early this week because of the holiday. I had built up some reward dollars at LiveAquaria and it was burning a hole in my pocket.

Ok while trying to get pictures of the new fish I spotted these growing on some of my rocks in the DT. I had them in the past in my frag tank and they disappeared. No one was able to ID them in the pest forum so now that they are back and in my DT I want to know what they are. They look like flowers or a tube worm without the tube. When i get close to them they close up.

What do you think????

Thanks dustin I was looking for that one. They seem harmless but dont want to wake up one day have them dominating the tank.
