My 280g Custom upgrade.....

Sounds good, Noel somehow knows everyone of the 7 million people in NYC lol. What dimensions are u looking for again?

I'm beginning to realize that. I have 48x20x20 now and I'd like to go up to 60 or 72x20x20. I already have a buyer for mine which is good.

U look into a stock 125-180g tank? I'm sure a used one would be fine and cheap. Shipping anything over a 4x4 (pallet size) is usually higher so I understand. It's just a sump to put ur skimmer and a few little things in right? If so I would def look at alternative options like a 275G tote (4x4x not sure of height), daisy chain of Brutes, or a large tub. I have been looking online for a large chemical container for work so if that's ur route I could send u a link though I just got them off google.

Can't remember do you have the space to look at rubbermade stock tanks? 5' by 3' depending on if you look at the 150 or the 100, I'm leaning that way now...

The only thing that I have in my sump now is my skimmer and some live rock. I have though about going with a glass tank but I have heard that over time the glass around the bulkhead for the return pump weakens and can split from the pressure but it might be something to consider.

Hey Doug.....I had thought about using a stock tank when I was setting up the tank. I would have the room for it decided I wanted something a little cleaner looking. I have the room for it and that might be something to consider again.

Steve, everything is looking good. Sorry about the montis but the Bayer will do the trick. I've had good success with it by using 10mL to every 1L of tank water for a 10 minute dip with water circulation the whole time. Different Bayers out there but I use the complete formula - concentrated.

Henry.....the critters are doing great. corals are really showing great color and growth. I noticed this new growth popping up from the base of my valida acro which was totally brown when I out it in the tank and now its an amazing purple...excase the crappy cell phone picture. I will start taking weekly pictures of that piece to show the growth.

The new lighting schedule for the scrubber is proving to be the right formula and after just 4 days I have more growth than I did after two weeks and the center of the screen is filling in. plus Im feeding a lot less since I've lost a lot of fish.

Finally on the sump....quotes for acrylic sump are crazy. I have been able to play with the flow rate coming out and got it slowed down enough to where I don't have any micro bubbles. I put a check valve on the manifold line and now Im not overflowing the sump when the pump turns off.

Now I need to clean and organize the fish room to make it look nice....its a mess right now.

Once you have it clean, or before we all understand, post some pictures of the fish room I'd love to see how you have things laid out back there now.

Steve that's good news. If you have to have a sump shipped once its over 48" the price goes up. Apparently once it is bigger than a pallet the price goes up like crazy. That was part of the reason I ended up building my own. All in all it turned out pretty good for my first sump.

Mine is a mess right now as well. I will be on clean up duty as well...lol.

Well after weeks and weeks of tweaking the lighting schedule and consulting one of the RC ATS experts (FloydRTurbo), I think we finally got the right lighting schedule and will make tweaks as needed. The growth on the screen below is after 8 or 9 days since the last cleaning. I should also add that I am feeding less now than I was a month ago due to the losses from the ich outbreak I had. This is the best growth that I have on this scrubber yet and better than anything I had on my first diy led scrubber that I used on my previous system.

The lighting schedule now is each side is on for 1 hr and off for 3 hrs but each side is on individually.

Is the light burning the center? Did you post info on your ATS LED setup somewhere? Must be powerful.
Glad to see you're recovering from the power failure issues. Went through some problems myself when we had that power outage last October here in the southwest, only 14 hours. I've got a small generator now. It's large enough to keep the tank going (not much else) if something like that happens again.
Is there anything in particular you feel has contributed to the recent success with your SPS?
Even though we've never met, I feel like you're a personal friend cause of the ATS thread. Following your adventure here with keen interest.

Johnny....where have you been buddy??? Im using the eshines 50w grow led and it is very strong. Based on the build of the scrubber its impossible to move the light further away from the screen so we have had to play around with the photo periods. I was getting a lot of burn in the center of the screen and we are finally at a good spot.

I think the sps have been doing well most because of the stable water parameters. The ca reactor has been a great addition to my system. I've also started adding elos amino acids in addition to my normal feedings. Of course the scrubber, skimmer and weekly water changes definitely helps too. This hobby is funny though, last couple of days things haven't been looking up to snuff and I can't figure out why.

Steve - glad to see you have the ATS finally tweaked to where it is doing closer to what you expect. I think we forget how strong little LEDs can be :).

One easy trick you could do is to put a piece of plexiglass in front of your lights to difuse them more before the light hits the screen. Bud (Floyd) may have already recommended that for ya. GL!

Steve there might be a way to back off the lights a bit, I didn't think about this before. You can get longer nylon screws (that hold the bracket/fixture in place) then place something between the light fixture and the laminated black window to stand it off a bit. only problem is that you will get light spill out of the fixture, but I don't think that would affect anything, and since your sump is in a dedicated room it won't be nuisance light for anything. If it is, you could make a square bracket out of black acrylic that fits in the opening and is held in place (I can draw a pic for you) or even use mirrored acrylic so that you don't lose light around the edges. Don't know why I didn't think of that earlier.

edit: you would also expose the fixture to the water a bit more because the vents in the fixture would not be covered as well. So as long as you take care not to drip all over when removing the screen....

Thanks Henry
. It's definitely been a lot of trial and error.

Thanks for the suggestion but Bud did suggest that and was implemented already. I had been thinking about adding another layer.

Hey Bud, I think we're headed in the right direction with this lighting schedule. As long as my water parameters are where I want them to be, I'm happy.

Now, does anyone know what these are? I found them growing on the glass in my frag tank and on the bottom of some live rock.

They look like flowers or some kind of clove polyp and close when I get near them.

Steve, I'd post the pic in the following forum:

Sushigirl sure knows her small critters and hitchikers on rock:) She helped confirm the isopod that freaked me out in my tank I found late last week!

thanks Dustin! I put my post in there and will report back what they say. They look harmless but thats what I said about the next door neighbors kid before he hopped over my fence stole all of the pumpkins we were growing last year.
