My 280g Custom upgrade.....

They are called star tunicates.

EXCELLENT WAYNE (or did Siri come up with that answer??? :lmao:) I just googled it and thats exactly what they are and they are harmless filter feeders. Hopefully with some improved flow throughout the tank, the population wont increase and maybe even begin to disappear. Thanks Wayne!!!

I pretty much have been googling it and researching every hitchhiking animal all day. Siri didn't know what I was talking about so I put her in timeout. It was an honor to assist you the best way possible.

Very interesting critters indeed... Dustin1300 thanks for the picture.

Np. Sushigurl has a great thread on hitch hikers in the new to hobby forum and is interesting/scary to see all the critters that make it in our tanks.

Well if I read correctly and I think I did, they tend to grow in lower flow areas. I added my 2nd vertex mocean last night, moved my two other power heads and increased the flow from the ph's. Now this morning the ones on the 1st picture I posted are completely gone. As a test I put the rock in a area where there was a lot of flow to see if this was true and voila....they're gone!!!

Dustin1300 - Thanks I will go check that thread out.

New equipment, recent additions and little critters

New equipment, recent additions and little critters

I've been busy over the last couple of weeks making purchases and havent had time to post any updates so here it is....

EQUIPMENT
So Black Friday came and went and of course I couldnt not participate in helping the economy. So I stocked up on some odds and ends but my big purchase was the Milwaukee/Martini Low Range Phosphate Kit.

My frustration had overflowed with the Hanna ULR Checker and I decided to make the investment in this kit. I was tired of the inconsistencies that I was experiencing with Hanna and so far this kit has been very consistent in the short time that I have owned and it is way easier to use.

NEW ADDITIONS

A friend of mine was ordering from Pacific Island Aquatics and asked me if I wanted anything to help get him the free shipping. So I picked up a trio of these....

While I was at his house to pick the fish up, he wanted to make some room in his DT and asked me if I wanted to buy some of his duplicate colonies and frags.....

I turned the lights on in my frag tank late last night just to see how the sps were doing and had to take a picture of this one piece I got. Its a tabling acro that is a light mint green coral with dark red polyps. This one is awesome looking!!!!

I will get pictures of the other pieces tonight

Now for the little critter
I was cleaning my overflow box over the weekend and removed the black acrylic insert and found this guy growing between the glass and the insert. This is by far the biggest bristle worm I have seen in my system.

Steve, great pickups. Please keep us updated on the Phosphate kit, I might pick one up. My ULR phosphate kit is not always accurate either. just on Saturday my phosphates tested out at 38 and 12 ppb in one test. I don't have any issues with algae but those are two completely different numbers....

Spotter,
You have a great build. I have followed your progress over the past two years when I began my third journey into reefing. The Milwaukee phosphate kit looks solid. I have been using the basic Hanna checker but may need to upgrade. What is the resolution and accuracy of the assay if you do not mind me asking? Thanks for your time.

Steve looking very good man. I think you money just burns holes in your pockets...LOL. That bristle worm looks like the 'Tiny' I had over on my thread. Keep us posted on how you like the meter...Christmas is right around the corner and I may pick one up as well.

Were the frags from Pacific East Aquaculture from the under $15 section? What size plugs are they on?

Very nice additions!

Thanks! Has your new light arrived yet? If you have any questions about it let me know.

The margin of error is +- 5ppm which I am ok with as long as the reading are consistent not like what I was getting with the Hanna ULR Checker. Ultimately my eyes will have final say over things. I am not targeting low nutrients anymore but I just want a consistent reading so I know where I am at.

Henry....I forgot all about 'Tiny'!!!!! Those were from the $15 and under section and I think those are 1" plugs but will measure later. I hadnt ordered zoa frags in a while but now that my zoa eating Rabbit Fish is gone I want to start adding some back into the tank.

No, not yet unfortunately.I've been told that it has been delayed in order for it to be delivered with the new software....

Thnx very much for the offer:thumbsup:
