my 29 build

i was shooting for the dark grey....not sure how adding black to a white kilz netted a bluebird egg blue (maybe it was the wood?), but that's what i got.

as far as the nooks & crannies, i took stuff like the shelf, dj strip mounting panel, wire cover & even the flip-up front of the canopy apart to make it easier to paint.

the nooks & crannies where areas that were too small for the roller or all the corners & edges where pieces that were impossible to take apart met. painting around all that stuff was mind-numbing LOL

have to look around see if I have the formula for the gray, IIRC there is more than just black in it.... just as there is more than blue if you WANT your kilz a blue tint..... just did that one a few months ago....

Jim

i just figured adding some black to white would net grey...was kinda surprised it came out that blue

all i know is it was a hell of a alot easier to cover w/ black than white would've been LOL

.....apparantly the formula for blubird egg blue is 1oz of flat black added to a 32oz can of kilz2

hahahahaha

well here it is painted :D

stand - stand - stand

==============================================
canopy w/out front - canopy & rear support - rear support

==============================================
front of canopy - shelf, light drawer & wire cover - front & side doors (no pics of canopy front doors)

The paint job looks great.

Side topic, how do you post the thumbnails from Photobucket?

goto account options & in Album Settings there is a "link options". in it under IMG options you check the box that says clickable thumbnails. that gives you the clickable thumbnail for IMG code....you can also do the same for HTML if you want to post thumbnails where you would use html code (like myspace)

ok now hurry and assemble for the money shot :)

LOL.....yeah, i don't have much left to do till it's running
crazy.gif

* hang doors
* wire the outdoor electrical box w/ the 2 gfci plugs & power input
* wire the (2) 2-bulb retrofit kits
* construct the project box containing the power input for the fans, & LED moonlights & daylight "shimmer" suplementation
* wire the diy LED moonlights & daylights
* wire all the fans
* construct the rock wall
* drill dispaly tank for the bulkhead/overflow box
* silicone the baffles in the sump
* build the ato reservoir/rdsb tank
* assemble the ato kit
* run all the plumbing
* assemble my ro/di & tds meter
* make 50g of water
* probably a bunch of other misc items that will pop up

so a few cases of beer? haha im subscribed but that doesnt mean keep me hanging :)

maybe when i rearrange the living room, i'll do a test run assembly & snap some pics LOL

hopefully by the weekend....when i got it all upstairs i started mocking up where i wanted it to sit beside the tv stand. i wanted it so that when sitting on the couch, you see the plasma & the aquarium in front of you.

well, to leave enough room to open the door on the side meant moving the tv stand down so far that the tv is not even close to centered on the couch...so far so, that you can hardly see the tv from the other end position on the couch :mad2:

so it looks like i get to completely rearrange the living room. gonna have to flip everything around 180 degrees cause the wall the couch is on is quite a bit wider, so i should be able to set it so that the tv is still somewhat centered on the couch & still leave enough room for the aquarium stand & room to open the side doors

so that means i get to empty the tv stand(since i can't move it w/ all the equipment in it....already tried), move it & the couch & completely rerun the wiring for the satelite, home threatre surround sound, phone for the satelite & computer, & all the tv, dvr, dvd, & home theatre wiring in the tv stand

THEN i get to go back to the list of stuff i need to do on the build that i posted above

haven't done much as far as geeting the living room rearranged to set the tank & stand up.....i tweaked my back picking somebody up (lets not get into that LOL)

so today, i decided to do some mockup of how all the plumbing was gonna go. i had sketched it all out on paper w/ a break down of each fitting & had purchased all the parts for it. well naturally, the plumbing has changed a bit since then.

the other day, i decided that the mag 9.5 that i was gonna use for the sump return on rear loc-lines & also the over the top manifold was probably gonna be too much flow thru the sump, so i decided to move it to a closed loop pump & purchased a used mag 3 for the sump return. this meant changing most of all the return side of the plumbing plans since before it was all going to one pump & now it is going to 2 pumps...each in different locations.

when i decided to make the mag 9.5 a closed loop pump, i decided a good bit of insurance against leaks was to put it in a small tank that would be plumbed into the sump in the event of a leak. i went to glasscages to get one of their 1/2 5g tanks (8x16x6tall) but the bottom was 1/8 glass (thought they told me on the phone it was 1/4) so not wanting to take the chance drilling that thin glass, i instead bought the plastic frame & pieces to assemble the tank but w/ 1/4 for the bottom plane. so now i also have that tank i need to put together as well.

anywhoo....back to the plumbing..... doing the mockup, i realized a few things that i need to fix before proceding that i will hopefully tackle tomorrow:

* the rear support piece (seen in the last pic post) needs to be cut where it goes behind the tank. i realized if the plumbing ran thru it, i couldn't take it off DOH!!!! ....not a big deal as the back of the tank will be painted
* same for the support piece on the rear of the tank for the canopy. i plan on leaving a portion of it on each side cause it helps align the position of the tank relative to the stand & canopy
* then i'll need to put a coat of paint on those edges cut

so at this point, it seems like the "to do" list keeps getting longer instead of shorter :mad2: .....but it's nice to have everything inside. at least i feel like i'm getting somewhere LOL

I am looking forward to seeing what you end up with... My 'to do' list is the same way... my only hope is my 'should have done' list stays small after it is all together.

small update......here is a mock up of where the glass-holes.com overflow box will go thru the tank & the suction part of the closed loop.

doing the closed loop suction over the top instead of drilling it & using a bulkhead. the rock wall will cover the piping & around the overflow box. i figure having the closed loop suction behind the rock wall, it should keep flow back there & keep the detrius build-up to a minimum. there will be a 2" tall piece of glass running verticle in front of the pipe along the bottom to form a barrier for the sandbed so it won't get sucked up

haven't decided if the overflow box will be covered in rock too or just epoxy & sand...that's waaay down the road LOL

also, here's a little tip.....don't drill holes in the pvc like i did in the living room thinking "i'll just vacuum it up when i'm done..."

3hrs later after a trip to wal-mart to get a belt to replace the broken one from the pvc strings wrapped around the drive brushes. i also became an expert at taking my vacuum apart to unglog it in about 3 different places & then on my hands & knees picking up all the pvc strings removed from the vacuum clogs

lesson learned....the hard way :mad2:

That all looks really cool. I also have a 29 gal tank that is currently set up and running. A friend just gave me another the other day. I was thinking of drilling into the sides and making sort of an overflow to link them together. Then use my fluval 305 to bring the water back up. Any ideas? Do you think there would be a filtration issue in the top tank?
