funny....the tank before this one was a 50 (& this 29 was gonna be the sump), but a combination of a large tax bill & my apt complex not allowing the total gallonage on the 2nd floor necessitated my downgrade :(

think it's about time to get out the hammer & chisel & make some of these really big rocks i have into a few smaller ones & get the wall started
:D

well i started on the "wall" today....i had intended to make it more up against the back & leave more of the sandbed open, but i started trying to break the rocks i had (marco & bulkreefsupply) into smaller more managable pieces (3-4") but they kept shattering into much smaller pieces :mad2:

in the end, i just stacked them up around the cave structure (modified the left side to only have 1 pipe) while still trying to leave a good portion of the sandbed open for lower light corals. i also have a fairly large (6-8") Trachyphyllia Brain Coral that i wanted to leave enough room in the sandbed for & i think there is a good spot just to the right of the centerline of the tank :)

i still need to trim the excess foam & then coat it with epoxy & sand. i also need to cut off the eggcrate that is exposed on the back & sides. i'm also gonna redo the sump return that has the hydor flo deflector in the middle of the tank to move it out in front of the rocks

post too long....pics in next post

yeah i'm hoping once the foam dries i can cut out a good bit of it & then hopefully the epoxy & sand will make it look more one piece :)

whatcha think of the end result of the caves/swim-thru??

Any update? I love your stand setup and the plumbing. Looks great so far!

no time or $$$ to do anything w/ it at the moment.....that coupled w/ the fact that i might be moving end of the summer, it's been pushed to the side in limbo for awhile

Hey James what happen? Anything new?

i ended up selling it all....might be moving & pretty much got rid of everything till i know where i'll be going & have a chance to do a more permanent setup

it had taken up a spot in the living/dining room area where i was working on it. i still glance at that area & see the empty spot & get :(

Im sorry to hear this. This was a very well thought out, clean build. Hope you will take us thru your next build journey.

Good luck with everything!

man, thats rough.. i have a few 29s layin around i wish i could give you.

i hated selling it, but i might be moving & if i do, i won't have any way to take it w/ me, so i went ahead & let it go :(

on a positive note, the guy that got it (for a steal i might add LOL) will more then likely finish it as i had planned

thanks. i literally spent a week or 2 "what if-ing" things in my head before even starting. every person that saw it was amazed at all the thought & incorporation i managed to get into it LOL

next one i hope to incorporate as much as i can, but i think i will keep it on a very small scale.....more than likely a 15 or 20L all-in-one

you def. inspired me with your build. i feel for you on the move. i just moved twice in a matter of 2 weeks and probably again soon. just moving from temp. place to place and luckily i moved my 29 directly to a friends and he is taking care of it until my housing gets more permanent. I had thoughts of selling it many times, should have but just couldnt. i look forward to your future builds. keep us posted
