My 29 gallon after a year .....what do you think?

Just thought I would share some new pictures I took tonight. Tell me what you think?

Wish I could get rid of that red bubble algae.........oh well hoping to cover it with zoanthids or star polups.

For lighting I have 4 T5 24 watt bulbs SLR reflectors.........no fan.

For flow I have 2 auquaclear 30 powerheads. 1 has a rotating head attachment the other is just normal. I also have a 10 gallon refugium below being pump up to the top by a mag 5 for additional flow. I also use a hang on top overflow to bring water to the refugium. The refugium has a 7watt bulb on it. (i know skimpy lighting, so far for almost a year I have got good enough growth, had to thin it out twice since in production.) I do have a charcoal bag in my overflow to help out.

I don't use a skimmer.

As you can see my setup is pretty cheap and basic. I like not seeing my powerbill change with the introduction of my tank. Of course I still like being able to keep the good stuff.

I currently have in my tank
sps = blue tort, birdsnest, green acropora of some type, pavona (red) psnammacora (green) orange cap, green slimer
lps = Torch, frogspawn, hammer coral, trumpet coral
softies = toadstool, 4 differrent types of mushrooms, 3 types of ricordia, pulsating xenia, sinulara, 15 differrent type of zonathids, green star polups
fish = 2 clown fish, 1 royal gramma, 1 Target manderin
other = clam, carpet anemomes

using about 70-80lbs of live rock between the 29 gallon and the 10 gallon refugium. Deep sand bed in both tanks.

Nice setup. Everything looks happy :)

Oops...almost forgot. How long have you had the clam? He looks like a nice one.

Funny you should ask about the clam because I was thinking of getting another one today :)

I have had the clam for about 6 months.

im about to start a 29 gal soon, build the stand and canopy last night and have about 4 inch of live sand and 45 pounds live rock, not in the tank yet still puting the pipeing together, dumping the 100 gallon, going back to my 29.... my frist tank that i turn into a place where i cycle my uncure live rock.....love your tank, i wish mine look like taht....

Any idea what the red bubble algae is? Its taking over my tank and driving me nuts!

You're tank looks great though, I LOVE the red mushrooms!

I have not messed with mine just because it seems like to much work but I am thinking I may try an emerald crab to see. I have seen others comment on them liking this type of bubble algae. Many others have said a sailfin tang or a hippo tang will eat it. Of course my tank is too small for a tang. I have also seem people say they had to manually scrub their rocks to get this off. I am not that worried about it. Most of what I have is in the shade and I am not sure it looks that bad. Of course time will tell if it takes over more ground :)

awesome! :) I love those red mushrooms. I got the same ones, but mine insist upon splitting many times into smaller ones rather than growing larger like yours lol.

Great looking tank! I hope to have my looking like that in about a year.

I'm still trying to figure out what corals and fish I eventually want to add to my 30 gallon tank. The only thing I know for sure is that I really would like to have a clown fish in my tank and I want to give it something to host in. Have you found that your clowns host in any of your LPS?

I have seen clown fish host in almost anything from a mushroom to some lps. For some reason neither of mine would like to host anything. They love to hang out next to the pipe coming from the refugium. Hopefully some day they will host in something.
