Thanks. So its basically the same thing as running sand in a fuge.I used to use the kent biosediment and half the sand should be changed every year or two.I am wondering when changing if there will be some impact on the bioload of the tank.I guess thats why its safer to have some kind of sand in the sump and a sand filter just for security.I was also thinking of getting an H&S denitrate filter. This will be in a year from now maybe 2 years.I think with this much volume of water plus 2-3" of sand in the tank and some kind of DSB and a sand filter I shouldn't have any nitrate problems.

Steve, Here is the link to the instructions for the sand filter. Under Maturation they say it can take up to 40 days.

Be careful what you post, you might be next on the hit list....heavy stocked is a no no....

I just read this and died laughing..LOL..Now really after a few post like theres I would just ask them to leave my thread. I really have tons too learn but they were just draggin out and F@&@* anoying. I care about my livestock but come on...

If I was closer I would love to help lift..Oh well..I like that OM8 that is a real PIMP!!

I just ordered stuff for the plumbing.I ordered spaflex or my supplier he thinks he can get some.It should glue straight into a fitting or do I have to buy a special adapter for that?He wasn't sure because he doesn't sell that stuff often.

If anyone has any info on how the hell I am going to lift this tank without pulling my back, and scratching the dam thing please let me know.I need to flip it sideways to drill it but I am afraid to do it myself.I don't think I even can do it.I will ask a friend and I will put some cardboard and old bed sheets down(just in case). Its on a pallet. My fear is how will I get this inside my basement.I think I will have to try and move it as close as I can with the pallet. But then how do I get it threw the door and on the stand.Lucky its not glass.

Do you have to go down stairs or is your basement a walk out? If you have to go down stairs put down a couple of 2x10s on the stairs and you and a friend can slide it. Put some cardboard on the bottom. I have the same size tank and me and 1 other person was able to lift 1 end up on the stand then lift the other end and spin and push into place.

Yes it doesn't seem very heavy. My friend has back problems and he lifted part of the tank and he said it wasn't so bad.I thought it was heavy, mind you its not light.I also have a bad back but I will wear my support bra(back brace) when we lift it.There is a door going into my garage so it will go straight in.I will get some cardboard or if we can carry it I will go right inside.I have taken some pics of the holes I made.
