My 300 Gallon Half Hexagon Reef Tank Build!

Well I moved the stand into the house yesterday, even though my significant other didnt want me to, lol. But she was happy to get back the parking spot in the garage, lol. Anyhow moving on along. I had to take the front door off because it was too wide, but it came thru with a little rubbing and loving.

Here's two sneak peak picts of the tank on the stand, the tank is sitting on a blancket I found lying around until I go buy some foam. Anyhow just seeing how its gonna look in its new home.

P.s- Im gonna move the clock to the right over the TV to make sure no salt creep slowly kills it. Lol

Looks very cool...the carpentry is quite good, wouldn't have known you were an amateur....

One suggestion - you should probably look into upgrading the skimmer, especially since you indicate you want to keep SPS, that skimmer is WAY undersized for a 300g tank.

Any ideas on what you are going to use as far as lighting? Followed the MARSH link also.

Im thinking about going with two 36" fixtures (600watts) a piece, and suspending them from the ceiling. I want two as to space them apart from each other to better cover the tank. Each fixture will have two halides and 4 t-5's and 2 sets of lunar leds. thanks for asking I shoukld have said that earlier in the post, lol. Oh and thanks for coming in from marsh, glad to be apart again. Looking forward to meeting and greeting with you and everyone else at our next meeting.

You're going to need a bigger TV now to match the tank! lol

I was thinking the same thing. Time to Upgrade!

I thank you for your kind words. lol

Ok, I will but I thought what I had would be sufficient, this skimmer is Identically built like the mrc mr-2 skimmer and the guy i bought it from had it on his 300 before he broke it down and it ran like a champ. But I'll look into a bigger skimmer. Thanks

BTW- heres a link for the skimmer im comparing it to. check it out

Very nicely done.

Thanks for the compliment. My head keeps getting bigger and bigger every time somone gives me one on the tank stand and build thus far. lol :smokin:  :strooper:

You used treated lumber??? Thats a major no no. Treated lumber will shrink over time plus its treated with copper. I would pull those 4x4's and use cedar ones. Or start over IMO sorry to be a downer, giving good advice sometimes sucks to hear

LOL. You know this is quite funny that you mention that. My girlfriend said the same exact thing as soon as I put the tank on the stand. She said wow, thats bigger than I thought it would be, you can even see the TV anymore, b/c your focuss is drawn to the tank. All I could do is smile and nod my head yea, your right, lol. Well I guess I move the 42" LG into my master bedroom and get a 52" or 60" LCD, lol. Just another reason to upgrade TV's , lol :bum:

Thanks for the suggestion or late bad news advice, lol. But I have used treated 4 x 4's on all my previous tank builds (i.e.-110, 135, & a 270) and had them set up for a year plus each with not one failure problem or copper chemical realease agent problem, so I'll bite that bullet. Hopefully nothing happens but God forbid in five-ten years if it does I wont be mad at you for jumping in and saying I told you so.

LOL, I guess you did use treated lumber. It will shrink up some but with the plywood casing and all the other support Im not sure if it will really effect anything in a negative way. I would paint the entire inside of the stand with a good primer though.

Hey dont forget about the 2x4 castings inside the 4x4 for supprot to, lol. :D It took me 30min to cut and add those to the stand. lol. But seriously yea I did think about painting the entire inside with a primer or somthing to waterproof it.
