My 300 Gallon Nightmare!!!

Wrasses are amazing that way. I had one do the same thing from the weir of my 29g into the refugium section, and it had to thread the needle of the rock-filled bubble tower and come out through the tiny teeth.

Sorry the Morish Idol incident turned out the way it did. How did you catch it so quickly? Your tank's pretty full, and catching a butterfly is tough.

Marc,
The Moorish Idol was begging to come out of there. He was so afraid of the existing MI that he stayed at the top of the tank and was easy to catch. He was also stressed and did not know the tank very well. He was only in there for 10 minutes.

Hi Richard, firstly I must commend you on an awesome setup you have there.
I kept a pair of Idols for a couple of months. They were locally caught. Initially I struggled to get them feeding but they started taking prepared foods and things were looking good. But then they developed a taste for my SPS. At first it was one piece so I removed it to another system, but they soon moved on to the next piece. Sadly I had to take them out and return them to the Indian Ocean.

Thank you for sharing your experience with your Moorish Idols. I actually saw my MI going after one of my table acros last night for the first time. He has gone after clams and some lps but not my sps. Well we shall see.

Unfortunately, I am right on the Atlantic, but nowhere near a natural habitat for these beauties. I don't think I would give him up if he went after my stonies. I would setup a fish only tank or make this tank a fish only tank. I love this MI so much and he has brought so much joy into our home.

This is a new piece I got and the thread that discusses it.

Wow ... well done.
It's very very beautifull tank ...

I wish soon my tank will be like yours

Adrianto

Thank you Adrianto, yours will be fantastic I am sure because i see the thought and time that you are putting into your system.

Richard - btw I am right here in Delray so if you ever need anything like bubble algee, red slime, that nasty red brillo-pad like algee or anything like that you don't hesitate to tell me.

Carl,
Just give me some time...I'm sure I'll catch up to you. This is a new tank. Up and running for less than 8 weeks.

For some reason Florida gives reefers a real hard time. Ironic isn't it?! We live so close to the Ocean and yet can't keep reefs alive and growing. Something to do with the water.

I am a nut when it comes to water purification. I have a very serious RO/DI system that helps purge most of the chloramines in the water.

Maybe you could be a consultant at br then. By the looks of their coral tanks they are using the discharge line for topoff.

Seriously though your tank looks great. Congratulations on the setup. I don't remember seeing it in your post but do you have a backup power system? Generator with a transfer switch or something of the like. I can't imagine you left that out.

I basically have a battery powered bubbler. And that is it.

Carl
