My 300 gallon thread

Since my 300 is still pending due to hyposalinity. So, I set up a frag tank I got from John at Your Reef. He sold it because he need to make some space of his renovation and space for his show tank. It came with stand, dart pump, 50gal sump, couple of bulk heads, some plumbing, and 2 1" sea swirl. I purchace the tank because I like it and Im too lazy to make a new stand and etc. the main thing is that I like the tank. The tank is situated close to the window thats why i dont wanna have high tank and cover my window. I just finish with the installing the lighting and the plumbing.

I dont know if I should put sand or chaeto on the 20gal above the sump or get another tank that way ill have both.

Nice frag setup!!Im really sorry to hear about your fish problems that really sucks.. Its a good reminder to me of why I really need to setup a Q tank as well...

Nice Job Reed! That's what I call a frag tank! I'm soooo jealous, my home is not configured right for me to run plumbing into the garage. You did a great job on hanging the lights.

Thanks Kevin. I thought it was really hard to install it but somehow it wasnt. I just went to home depot and as for help.hehehe Those guys are great. I just came from H20 and got some crushed corals for my reactor. Dennis is selling it with a very reasonable price.

This is my final aquascaping..Im trying to maximize the whole tank. That way they corals can share the light. It doesnt really show in the pictures.. The rocks are kinda like a small hill, up slope. I just took my some pics from my phone. all I need to do now arrange all the wires and hook them up to my AC jr. Im kinda over whelmed when i was reading the manual though (I'll be asking some questions about it in a couple of days). My salinity is at 1.025. Shout out to Minh for letting me borrow his refractometer.. Here is a little updated pic on the final aquascaping ( "I think" ) .

Im planning to put a small fridge, wine cooler, and liqour rack..do you guys have any suggestions what ill put under the frag tank?
IMG_0035.jpg

Here is the stuff in my garage.I just need to clean up, arranged the wirings and I think Im almost done.. The glass tank on the left will be my fuge or DSB or both, Im still confuse what to put ( frag tank set up). The tank beside it is for the main tank ( 300 gal ) for a fuge or DSB or both. The far tank on top right will be my 100gal QT..Im still stting that one up. Actually I found a filter and it has a built in UV light already..Its a good candidate for the QT.. All these wont be possible without the help of fellow reefers specially MARS members. Thanks again guys.

Hey Reed - I am concerned that the metal racks are going to rust really fast. You might want to replace them with a wood structure. If you need help with your AC Jr, give me a holler. I have never program one before, but it looks very simple.

Overall - nice setup!

Minh

Reed,
You have a nice tank and cool frag tank. I wish to have a frag tank but I think my wife will pack my stuff and tell me to sleep in the frag tank :D

Here's that thread we talked about on using 'Randys 2 Part'.

Your build is coming along real nice.

Man, you've got one nice wife to actually let you have a frag tank
along with your main tank.
I noticed that your rock goes all the way to the sides of your tank. That's alright if you're ok with never cleaning the side glass. The side glass is gonna look real funky after a while.

I'd like to see your setup sometime.

Minh, you are right about the stand we'll see how long will it last before it will rust. I hope the controller won't be that complicated. I'll let you know.

Joe, let me know if wanna drop by. I won't be cleaning the side of the tank thats why the rocks extends all the way to side.

sorry bro, I couldn't make it over. I'll come by tomorrow. I wanna see them acros, maybe hook me up with some. :D

No problem, I'll be happy to frag you some. You can come by anytime after 8pm. This is first batch I'll move them to the main tank in a week or two. I'll be getting some more spa after that.

Lookin good Reed! That plumbing looks clean! I wish I did my drain cutouts like that. I was a genius and only cut holes slightly bigger than my bulkheads in the stand bottom. Which was just fine when I was able to move the tank around during the build. But now that it's filled I can't get a wrench through the holes to be able to take the nut on and off. Or even tighten them if they leak (Yep, already been down that road) Lol. So look everyone....this is how it's done!

P.S. I also rushed and threw a bunch of tangs in my tank without QT'ing them. I had to return one Powder Brown due to fighting with the Powder Blue and now my tank has ich. All of the fish have since either died or fought it off. But now whenever I add any new fish they go through an ich cycle. Live and learn I guess.

I actually bought the tank and the stand from John at YR. I guess he takes that credit. Yup, I learned that QTing your live stocks is one of the best thing you can do for your tank and yourself. I'm so paranoid with marine velvet now. And what really help is the UV light.

Finally I got some corals in my main tank. It would be great if you guys can ID some of the Acro, Monti, and Zoa. I didnt have time to do it yet. Here they are. More to follow in 2weeks.
