Thanks. Did you order the "Premium" or "Collectors Edition" base rock?

I went with the "Premium"... I like the rock, have order 3 times from him and will be back for more...

fyi captain jer indicated he would not have rock until later in the year.

i second the rock from marco rocks, huge, lightweight but porous pieces and great customer service. he will special requests and take pictures before sending it to you

It has been a while so I thought I would give an update.

Thanks for the base rock suggestions. I decided to go with Marcorocks. The rock looks great. It looks so open and porous that I am almost worried about it being a detritus trap. Pretty good price too, I think it came to about $2.60 per pound delivered to my door. I will post some pictures when it arrives.

James at Envision is almost done with the tank. Here are some pictures of the build that he sent me.

WOW this is gonna be a amazing setup I love it when people really think about there set up before doing it

Wow, I cannot belive it has been a little over a year since I last updated this thread. I decided to take short break

from this project over the summer. It ended up lasting a year. Oh well, I am back on it and I made some progress in the

last few weeks.

Here is the tank after it was delivered a year ago. I drove to Portland and picked it up from James at Envision

Acrylics.

54"x48"x30" 1 inch acrylic euro braced.

The tank is finally in place. I tried to get a moving company to move the tank downstairs, but none were interested. Luckily I was able to get some help from local reefers here to help get the tank in place on the stand.

Here is the tank on the stand. It is in-wall and this is a shot from the fish room.

The back is clear acrylic so that I can view the tank from the fish room. I also ordered a sheet of black acrylic that I can attach to the rear of the tank to give it a black background. It looks really good.

I received 200 Lbs of Marco Rocks a while ago. Man this stuff is great. It is so porous. When I placed some pieces in water the rock was almost buoyant because of all the trapped air. Anyway, here are some pics of the rock after I opened the boxes.

this i think is the best build ive seen alot of planning and thought has gone into this (especially the styrofoam model ) and i am really hoping this goes well for you and exciting pics cant wait for the next batch

Nice build. Hope you don't mind; just Just my 2cents. I order 150lb from Marco rock last year. Love it; but I should have water blast the rock before hand. Instead I soaked it in a garbage can; boy this really smelled up my garage.

There are lot of dead stuff in it :D

Awesome tank...i love how you went deep...I have a 55 so i have no width to the tank at all sowhen i upgrade i am deff. going to with an extra deep tank...probably not a true cube though....

what sort of Lr are you going to use? and what sort of formation are you thinking or is that to far ahead for this moment of time?

Ya, hogall, I am glad you mentioned that about the rock. I did the same, placed all the rock in a large bin and added a skimmer. There was a lot of organic material in the rock. It stunk really bad for a while.

Aaronovky, I don't think I am going to add any live rock other than the marco rock I have been curing. I think I just want the bacteria and not the hitchhikers.

As for rock formation, I am planning on doing two piles of rock on each side with a canyon through the middle. Similar to the mockup I did on earlier with the fake rock.

I also want to say how great a job James did building this tank. He is a great guy to work with and he does incredible work. This tank is solid.

I still have plenty to do yet before I can get water in the tank. I need to:
- schedule the electrician to add the 3 20 amp circuits.
- schedule the plumber to install a sink.
- add a second hole in exterior wall for vents.
- drywall on wall and paint the room.
- plumb the closed loop.

Looks Good, The tank looks like its going to be great.I love the way acrylic looks compared to glass but just curious why you went with the bracing when the it is 1" thick?
