My 3rd purple gig

Took this guy home after the BAR event:

The store had it for over a week now and it seemed healthy both times I saw it, so I took a chance.

I put it a 10 gallon QT with a pair of anemone crabs and a pair of anemone shrimp - I guess those guys will be happy.
Though the female blue stripe pipefish from that tank had to move a bit prematurely to the tank with my tan/green gigantea and percula pair 3 where I have the male for her.

So far no treatment needed.

It had expelled a few zoox but no open mouth or deflating.

It's under a MarsAqua light and so far it seems to like it.
The porcelain crab pair and the anemone shrimp pair seem to be happy too.

I will observe it for a total of 4 weeks and if it is then still doing good it will go into the system with the other purple gigs - and then lets see if we can get some purple baby gigs.

The only thing I'm a bit concerned about is if they may harm my corals with chemical warfare.
I already had some funky things going on. Most notably a die-off of most of my birdsnest corals, some of them had been in the system since the beginning a year ago and grown substantially. Some of those I evacuated to my 42 tank didn't die all the way and kept at least some tips alive that now grow again.

Have you ever observed a porcelain crab be aggressive towards their host anemone? I've had some white spots anemone shrimp, as I see you do above, that were aggressive when they lost their carpet anemone and migrated to my large BTA. They would cut off tentacles and eat them. The porcelain crabs look awesome and I was thinking of getting one but am curious regarding their behavior of host anemones.

Any update on this one?

Still doing fine so far:

It seems to like the MarsAqua light, even though (or because) it seems to promote algae growth much more than the Kessils I use for my other gigs.

It expelled some fluffy zoox mass, but that may be rather due to having excess of them rather than disease.

Porcelain crabs do no harm to their host anemones. They are primarily filter feeders that sometimes supplement their diet with scavenging food scraps that come by. They however may pinch clownfish if these get too pushy towards them.
Also porcelain crabs are very dependent on a host anemone. Even if they can't stay inside because it is occupied by clownfish or another same sex single or pair of porcelain crabs, they will linger nearby and at least sneak in for a while at night.
Without an anemone they will sooner or later perish.

The anemone crabs are a little less dependent on an anemone and will take on polyp colonies or corals as substitute hosts.
So far I haven't seen my shrimp doing any harm to their anemones.

I've set the blue to about 75% and the white to about 10%. Though it's hard to tell precisely from the dial position. I still need to get modifying it for Apex control.
Did you modify yours?

No I didn't modify it. I usually keep mine at 60-75% blue and 50% white maybe a tad more. Seems to work well for my mixed reef. I agree would be nice if they had "clicks" and numbers on the dials to know exactly where you are with the settings so it's easier to duplicate.

Looking great. I am very jealous of people getting color Gigantea so easy but it is a lot less now than a few years ago.
Best of luck with him

It looks like giganteas like cheap Chinese LED better than the expensive stuff.

This is my last in a 10 gallon under a 165W Mars Aqua:

The porcelain crab pair has the shrimps kicked out by now.

My other purple gigs changed color quit a bit under the Kessil A360: they got browner and a lot greener.
This one kept its overall purple color quite nicely, likely because the LED box lacks the UV component of the more expensive Reef LEDs.
It also didn't brown like the others.

The only downside of the light is that it seems to support some rather ugly slime algae, but I suppose a good CUC cold fix that.
