So I started building the 40 gal here are a few pics of the stand that I started.

I built it to fit the sump under it as you see

like it alot! lots of interesting ways to stack a corner tank...let me know if you want some help.....lol!!!!!!!

Re: My 40G corner build

The stand as you can see is over sized to fit the sump. Side behind the tank will be used for cabinet space or a refugium.
Lighting will be low light mostly non-photo coral. Possible I might put on an actuator to lift it up and down. Not sure yet.

a 2 foot T5 would be plenty. Like the one Tom used to have over his corner at TRS. Don't know if that still up, haven't been there in a year or two.....but that tank always looked great.

there's a guy on URS that's selling 2 PAR38 bulbs for $80 a piece. Even one would be fine for low light corals, but it'd be pretty easy to fit both over your tank. They just screw into a regular light socket, so your could pick up 2 of those clip on, adjustable fixtures for $10 each. Rockin nano light for $200 with amazing color.

I like the oversized stand alot. It'll give you a much nicer space than a stock pent. stand. Very cool little tank. Should make for a very interesting display

got another update and I think you all may like this one.

Yes that is on a slide so that I can pull the sump out fro under the tank to clean and care for the tank easier. I already filled this with water to make sure that it would hold the weight.

Looking good! can't wait to see the finished product!

The pictures make it look as if the front section of the stand is being held up by screws - if so consider a vertical runner so that the load is supported by the wood and not the screws.

Not a carpenter on the side but build a lot of car speaker boxeson the side and if it is in the car it has to be perfect. No screws holding the sides up at all.

Love the sliding sump idea!

Since the sump does slide out, you MAY want to consider putting a vertical piece between the middle horizontal braces. The vast majority of the weight of the tank is being supported by the upper middle horizontal 2x4. Not that your tank will be extremely heavy, but with water and rock it will be 300+ lbs. At first I though you may have left that vertical support out to have access to the sump, but with the sliding sump that's not the case. You may not need that vertical support, but better to be safe than sorry IMHO (it wouldn't even need to be a 2x4 if you wanted something smaller, but using a 2x4 which you most likely already have is probably easiest).

Nice job!

Thank you for the kind words on the build. Not sure what you mean about the support in the middle?

I think SG is talking about adding support between the X's as it looks like you have no vertical support for the back of your tank:

But my guess is that you are going to cover the top with a solid piece of ply or something to finish the stand off which would move your weight out to the edges where you do have vertical support.

That's exactly what I was talking about Twin. Thanks for the illustration and further explanation.

Yes thank you for better explaining. Yes I do have a solid piece on top 3/4 in thick to bring the weight to the edges.
