My 500 + gallon system. Last 13 years to now. Build, Aquascaping & more. Lots of pics

yeah, that's too bad, I hope he posts some pics and updates soon. I just got into the hobby about 6 months ago and I really enjoyed watching his tank on LA Fishguys. I was really impressed about how much effort and thought he had put into his tank.

Thanks for the compliments! As for the other hobby.. I'm on my second C6.. First was an 07 Convertible. My most recent is an 09 Z06.

Here ya go!

Hey you live right down the street from me!

Hey guys,
Sorry for the lack of updates. I know it has been a while. Not much to report. Fish and tank are doing well. No new additions as far as fish and coral go. Some of you were asking about the Ozone. I have not been running it for a while. I was on a trip and my apex alerted me via text that there was water on the floor under the tank.. I called home and had the wife check under there and narrowed it down to the ozone reactor. She shut the valve for me which resolved the issue. After my trip, I never got around to resolving the leak and as such have not run the reactor in a while. I probably should do that soon as I am sure the leak was the result of something stupid.

I am still dealing with a little cyano. It seems to come and go. My water quality is perfect according to all my testing. The bryopsis on the other hand is pretty much all gone.

Sometime in the next few weeks we will be doing a large vacuuming to remove the cyano from the bottom of the tank. I still have some of the crushed coral and sand on the bottom so we will remove a good portion of that when we vacuum. Most of the sand and crushed coral was removed with previous vacuuming but I do want it all gone as it just provides a great place for detritus to build up.

No recent LA Fish Guys episodes and none planned at this point since there isn't anything new to report.

Since the tank has been doing well on its own and all the fish and remaining soft coral happy, I haven't really had to do anything to the tank other than keep the acrylic clean and make sure there is salt water mixed up in the shed outside for the automatic water changes.

Hey you live right down the street from me!

MxReEf,
Small world! I sent you a PM.

Any updates? Love this tank. Watched the LA Fishguys videos originally then saw you had a build here. Tank is exceptional and your skills with all the particulars is impressive. Hope the tank is doing well. Hoping the cyano issue is resolved. Cheers Pic?

Cyano issue is completely resolved now. I ended blasting all the rocks off followed by dosing some Chemi Clean. 2 days later I did a 25% water change and complete vacuuming of the tank. We removed most of the remaining sand and crushed coral from the bottom of the tank. It's now clean and 100% cyano free.

I need to take some new pictures but beyond the lack of cyano, there really isn't anything new with exception of fewer corals as I have lost some over the last year and wasn't going to add anymore livestock until I had a handle on the cyano. One thing is for sure, my rocks look great. The coralline has grown and plated like crazy making my rocks look amazing. Now I just have to budget some money for some new soft coral. I still have no desire to go back to SPS.

I do have a bit of an update. I'll be heading to fellow member, Reefski's tomorrow morning to pick up some new softies. Depending on what I come back with, I might be taking some pictures soon.

A bit of an update. I picked up some nice soft corals from Reefski. Thank you very much Carl!

All are in and happy. I took these photos and the video just a few hours after putting them in. The quality isn't great as I uploaded them straight to photobucket from my iPhone instead of transferring them to my computer first and using photoshop to fix them up a bit.
My Rose anemone is still a bit unhappy with the recent Red Slime/Chemi-clean treatment followed by 2 days of lights out and a 150G water change. It is coming back around. For a week it's tentacles were virtually non existent. They are beginning to extend again.

I also began adding MicroBacter 7 to supplement some additional good bacteria in my system just in case the ChemiClean effected anything and also compete with whatever the cyano was feeding on. As of now, 2 and half weeks later there is no sign of red slime and the tank and rocks look great.

Pretty much all of the sand has been removed with exception of a few patches. I've been working hard on removing the coralline from the glass. There was a lot of it. I have a Jumbo Mighty Magnet with one of their calcareous algae scrapers. That thing is pretty damn amazing! I try do hit it once a day or every other day. Thus far, it cut the coralline down by 50%. It will be really nice to have and maintain coralline free viewing panes!

Anyway, on with the pictures.

Here is a video of the entire tank. Not a great ones as the bright LED's seem to whack out the iPhone video camera.

I'll do an update in a couple weeks when everything new is ajusted to their new home and everything old is back to normal.

Scott,
What happen to the large colonies that I sold you ?

I traded one in at my local fish store when it wasn't doing well. I think I lost another one. I don't remember to be honest. Sad to say that I've lost enough corals over the years that I do my best to forget the losses so as not to dwell on it.
