My 500 + gallon system. Last 13 years to now. Build, Aquascaping & more. Lots of pics

It's funny Scott- after coming back to the hobby about 18 months ago after a 20 year hiatus, I actually can make sense of your equipment list. It would have been pure gibberish to me 18 months ago. Lol

Tank is looking great

Yea, things have changed in the last 20 years. What would have once been gibberish to me is now second language.

Thanks a bunch! I'm really pleased with the tanks growth. Kind of surprised actually when I look back at pictures from a couple years ago or more and seeing how much things have grown with little to no effort from me. Especially given that I spend less than an hour a month working on the tank including feeding. There is something to be said about the merits of automation when it comes to water quality and tank health. Especially if your not a maintenance kind of person like myself. I don't think my tank would be half as healthy as it is if I had to depend on my own manual labor for anything other than cleaning the viewing panes.

Hello Scott,

First of all, i must say your tank is simply amazing! I was wondering if you can give me some suggestions on automating my RODI unit to refill my RO reservoir when needed. I don't feel comfortable relying on the auto shut off valve that comes with the BRS unit and will no doubt shorten the life of it and the membrane. The use of electonic solenoid valves comes to mind but would like some input on which ones to get and how to configure it. Right now, i basically feed my RO unit from a service valve that is attached to my tankless water heater. From there, the output is fed into a float switch that is attached to my reservoir (5g bucket). Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I do also have an APEX if that helps.

Some more growth shots.

This was taken about 20 days ago and you can see that there are a bunch of new tips growing on the almost all the tips of it. It's also coloring up nicely.

Here is an updated video walk around I took this morning. It was a bit early so the lights weren't at full intensity Some fish were still hiding and the corals weren't fully opened up.

One more video. This one covers the rest of my system including sumps, refugiums, pumps, lighting, life support shed etc. It's fairly long as there is a lot to cover.

alot of great ideas, i love builds like this because they seem to always be improvised or improved as you go. Im sure you always seem to think of ways to improve something.

Some more growth shots. I've been very pleasantly surprised with the growth.

These were taken yesterday. Good growth on both the birds nest and that other coral in front of it.
