My 500G Osama Reef-2

Thanks Steve. I like RC because of the people and the opinions and suggestions and learning I get from here. I will be looking closely at all the seams and the whole tank and go over my observations with LFS owner and anything that I do not understand I will post here to get advise/opinions etc.. Thanks a million Steve. to ALL at RC; Please keep the opinions coming I appreciate it..

question on the loc line returns, it looks like they are fed from one end, i can't tell if it's closed loop but the first return might be way stronger than the last one in the chain. will wait on updated pics.

Sonic: I have two returns to main tank Each with its dedicated own pump diablo 10500 DC pump. One return from the right and front// second return from the left and back. Each returns have 4 outlets each with a dual nozzle. Will have coming, 4 pumps for the main tank closed loop, Echotech MP60

Following along! Please make sure you follow glass cages suggestions for stand and I think they require padding under the tank.
Looking good!

Corey

Corey thanks. My setup is being put together by a "professional" that I used before and was happy with him. He has Styrofoam under all four tanks. and made sure everything is super level. I'll keep all informed of progress Hope for the best. Have filled two inches of water Twenty eight inches to go plus 3 small tanks needing another 180 gallons.. PATIENCE is in demand in my household!!

Returns from 4 pumps

Returns from 4 pumps

Middle 2 pumps are for front and back headers of main 500g tank. Other two are one for each of the lower R&L two tanks with a valve to control flow into smaller tanks.

I know those guys and that shop! They are both awesome at what they do. Matt and Dave are an awesome combination. Ur tank is going to be sick! I've actually seen it in his store before you got it. That thing is huge!

RO unit working OT

RO unit working OT

I know Matt from back when!! I just trust the guy to provide a good product.. So he is directing the show on equipment and install .. My RO is working and I have 3.8 inches of fill in 14 hours.. Four days to go. I have two RO units in the basement 150 + 90 I maybe loosing a lot from a small line coming from the basement that is hooked to two units. If U can tell I am a bit,, or more than a bit,,, impatient.. I wonder if I can get better flow volume if I connect each RO unit to its own supply line. Will try this later today..

I would i have to think that it would definitely help by splitting the ro units on two different water lines. Also, can you get an RO booster pump? I use one and it definitely improved the time it takes to make water for the tank.

RO Effluent

RO Effluent

Steve: I asked Matt LFS owner to bring one along, he did not!! He said I did not need one. Maybe not after this big fill but for now I would think it would have been desirable to have one especially if he had a loaner in the store. Have no objection to paying for a new one either... Anyway.. Anyway I have 60psi pressure going into the RO units, is this good enough and what can I expect as improvement in output flow with the pump? anyone who has an idea please chime in and Thanks..
2. I discovered just minutes ago that my 150gpd RO unit discharge line had a valve that was closed so I opened it now. not sure if it was contributing to the flow into the tank or not? and if it did contribute would it have been good RO. last nite rdgs were 5ppm. Will check the effluent in an hour to see if there is any difference in the purity of the water

when my booster pump is running my psi is always close to 100psi. To me 60psi would indicate low water pressure or dirty filters. When you say that last nites reading was 5ppm...are you talking about TDS and is that reading the effluent or the input? Your TDS should be zero for the effluent at all times.

Also, I like having the booster pump because when the time comes that you need to make water fast for an emergency water change you want to know that you can do it faster than you can without the pump. With the black friday sales coming up, I would suggest picking one up from one of the online retailers like premium aquatics or bulkreef supply.

Effluent was 5ppm last nite today after opening the valve for my 150gpd waste water line the rdg is zero like you say Steve it should have been all nite. A bit or more than a bit disappointed that my LFS guy I trust so much did not check this out!! and did not have the two outputs on two separate lines
Pressure this am is only 50 psi so I have to assume doubling this pressure will improve the effluent into the tank. I wonder how easy it is to hook up a pump now.. I can go get one from anywhere my LFS is not that close Hopefully Pet Store will have one.. Thanks Steve.

Something doesn't sound right about the RO lines... It sounds like the units were installed so as to re-process waste water (which is good) but doesn't sound right if 1 unit (150gpd) was closed off... Think it should be rechecked, and explained, so you understand what should be happening!

I opened the discharge on both units and separated the effluent into separate lines. Next I will check if HD or Meynards has a booster pump. Effluents are NOW open coming from each of the two RO system So water quality is A OK.. zero ppm... Now I am thinking of maximizing outflow without compromising on water quality thus separating the effluent lines (done) next is to see if I can get a booster pump. I think with P=50psi and have two RO units with a total of three membranes I would be ahead in the long run with a booster pump.
Later for more news and THANKS

Hey Osama. You technically don't need a booster pump for the long run. For the short it would probably be fine in filling it up in a day or two. 60 PSI is good. Not awesome. A booster pump will probably put you closer to 100 PSI but, you don't really need that for the long run when the system stays off.

When you said that you had a 2-1 Do you mean that they ran the two systems into one line into the tank? If that is the case I don't see why that wouldn't be ok. But, with the 150 valve being close that means the 90 was probably doing all the work.

How do you plan on setting up the rest? I would do a barrel with an autotop off system. Since you are getting the APEX I would say look at the avast marine and get the one that works with the Apex. It isn't needed but, you can have them program it to run through the Apex instead of a stand alone unit.

Since you are getting the Apex you should have no reason to run as much as possible through it to use as much of the benefits to your advantage. Your timing is almost perfect though with the Fusion release right around the corner. If I were you I would consider emailing them about being part of the test program. not sure that they have selected everyone or not but, it could be worth a try.
