My 500G Osama Reef-2

Merry Christmas to ALL

I like the setup and the piping layout and the return hdrs in front and back of the tank

DC pump failure is NOT acceptable .. Second failure in less than a year

Bubbles from an under-designed sump still to be fixed waiting for a fix for a long while.

Sump under-design will and does cause flooding on power failure. Need to increase size of emergency overflow pipe

Tank carpentry is beautiful but system is not best it could have been

Growth is great also in this tank

Right now I am flustered as I have a pump not working and am just glad I have a second pump on line for my main DT...

Humbagghhh I am enjoying our family Christmas day and will look into the pump maniana

That is a terrible feeling having a pump fail but the backup for emergency cases is a MUST.

Sawdonkey I examined that coral and something must have cleaned it up. NO RED SPOTS at all.. Great... Now I need someone to remove the one broken pump & place my new one, hoping Matt Jensen will be able to call back soon....

Yep With a bad back I am Now in need someone to remove the one broken pump & place my new one, hoping Matt Jensen will be able to call back soon....

are there any other installers or lfs in the area that maybe you can turn to? I think you've been patient enough with the guy that set this up. I think its time to bring someone else in to get everything fixed.

Steve U are absolutely right. Not that Matt does the work for free or that I bargain him to death as I actually pay him his asking price... I am just a sucker for sticking by those people that I deal with, usually works well to keep a good relationship going BUT ,!!! Otherwise tank is doing great, /// Happy New Year Steve and ALL.

Bad news followed by more bad news..... Now the two main tank pumps stopped working. Matt is going to be sending someone in the am.. Meanwhile what pumps should I consider as the most reliable to have on my big investment here.. I am using DC10500 and would like a DC pump that is reliable and powerful... Sleepless night tonite. i have my MP 60s running and added a couple of airstone to the DT.. If my back was good I could swap the pumps temporarily but now I have to have someone on board that can response in such emergencies

Hey Osama!

If your bored, can't imagine you are, pull the power supply and go to Walmart or radio shack and see if you can find a replacement. Usually the pumps do not go bad but the power supplies do.

It may be worth a shot for you and I can't see that they would be expensive.

Thanks midnight I actually have a spare power supply but it did not do the trick.. A service person did sent a message that he will be at my place in the afternoon. Keeping my finger crossed for the overnight..

Well it was worthy try. I have a similar pump running my skimmer and then an RD3 80w on the main. I Really like the quality of the RD3 and would suggest it but, it can't do the flow the 10500 says it does. However, I feel the 10500 is overrated.

I need a higher flow pump but that will be for another day,.. Got confirmation that service man will be here tomorrow afternoon... Keeping fingers crossed overnight

ALL is good :: Service person is Great. Made it by me even though he was booked for the day and had to replace both pumps. One pump completely dead and the other one would go on for 10 seconds and shuts off then stays off for hrs then does the cycling thing. Using another power source did not do the trick.. from what I could gather. Very grateful to Steve Goldman of Rainbow Reefs and Reef Dr. THANKS

Snails at it again laying eggs

Snails at it again laying eggs

My snails at it again. Has been a long while without seeing snail eggs forming.. This week had 3-6 spots of fresh eggs... No fish seem to eat them. They must be high on cholesterol and fish are avoiding them

Co2 Regulator

Co2 Regulator

Finally did it ::;I was reluctant to pay $270 for a CR-CO2 regulator. I think I am going to be happy with it. After 18 hrs seems to be quite accurate on bubble count and we shall see how long it stays stable and accurate. Thanks Steve

is it me or does the carbon doser look bent?
btw nice tank, if you were closer i would help you work on it for free!

Thanks for noticing the bent.. It is actually bent a bit but working fine? Is this of concern and why? It is not touching the cylinder so it is actually as received .

My New camera

My New camera

Finally got me a new underwater camera after my D20 Canon drowned in my tank I got the D30 and tested it before rdg any directions yesterday. Love to share my tank pictures after 14 months tank in full operation. Growth has been phenomenal ...

Office Side of full tank (almost eleven feet long)

Family Room Side

Various tank shots

WOW Osama!!!! it looks amazing!!!!! Looks like you got the micro bubble issue resolved too!!!! Great work!!!

Thanks Steve.... Micro bubbles and an undersized sump are still work in progress but I use filter socks when I get annoyed from the bubbles. Installer is planning to replace the sump altogether with a bigger one (limitation is existing space) and rebuild the inside with baffles. I do not like socks. He just mentioned it yesterday on his own initiative... Meanwhile I am just enjoying it
