My 540G Inwall Display Build Thread

Yes in Arizona EVERYTHING needs AC! I think if my house burns down the shed will be toward the bottom of my concerns but you are correct that I could transport anything that survived.

Just got my rock in, 1100LBS. I wanted extra so I could play around with the shapes. I have a local aquascaping expert coming by in the next few weeks to help me do the aquascaping. Any left overs will just go into the sump for more filteration.

I got these from Marco Rocks. Its his Key Largo rock. I went with this rock for the following reasons. I wanted something that was not taken out of the ocean. Marc said this rock is rock from and area of flordia that used to be ocean but from construction and so on its no longer ocean and all this rock is exposed. Secondly I wanted dry rock to make sure I did not get any pests and with dry rock I can get into the tank and aquascape and take my time. Cost $1800 approx.

i used BulkReefSupply eco saver rock and it looked similar to that. i love the holes in that kind of rock and the benefits of dry. keep us updated as it goes along.

have you ever finished or done any more in the shack out back?

I have not accomplished anything inside the shed but I have worked on the outside yard area around the shed. This is how it looks as of today.

Everything looks awesome but I do not see any venting in your eaves, wont you have moisture problems? Maybe it is not an issue in Arizona. I added a tank shed and had lots of problems with the high humidity condensing on the inside of my roof, I had to add roof vents and replaced my bird blocking with wire mesh which solved my problem.

Here you can see the pipes run under the air handler area, and my first fish.

Nice build ... the tank!

Judging by its livery, it looks like an 'office-worker' fish -- problem with those fish is that they can be real messy eaters and they just grow too big. Next thing you know it'll want to get out of the tank and borrow the car! :lolspin:

Tone :)

You are correct I have not added any venting as of yet. I will need some type of air exchange but I have not figured out what to do yet. I cant just do open air vents as in the summer when its 115 here the ac would never shut off in the shed. I will need something that opens for a few minutes to bring in fresh air and thn closes. If I'm bringing in fresh air I probably need a vent to let air out at the same time.

Your roof venting is separate from your room venting. I would think you would just pull out the blocking in your eves and replace with wire mesh or notched bird blocking then put a roof vent in. If you are running AC in the shed I assume you insulated the ceiling and walls. I have a bathroom fan hooked to a thermostat to vent the tank room, I have heard others use humidostat instead but have not heard good things as the humidistat is turning on too frequently. I get a cheap source of cool air due to poor workmanship, I failed to install a p-trap in the floor drain which is hooked to my houses gutter drain which wraps around the foundation a couple feet down, as a result cool air is sucked into the room when the fan kicks on. I am sure humidity wont be as much of a problem for you living in Arizona.

great build and energy to create the ultimate reef tank. Very clean & neat work, not to mention the small house just for the filtration system. Looks like you dotted all your I's and crossed all your T's.

Looking foward to seeing it stocked.

Thumbs up...

Bill

Man this is going to be awesome! I love the idea of the bar and rock on the wall in front of the tank. Keep the updates coming.
