My 540G Inwall Display Build Thread

Well after a long delay here is an update. I will be picking up my stand in 2 days from the fab shop. I then plan on painting it myself with POR-15 to protect it from rust. The demo of the drywall has begun. Unfortunately I found two hang ups, one some structure support where the tank is going and a fairly large crack in my slab right were the tank is going. I have some one the way as I type to advise me on these 2 issues. When demoing the wall I found a mini bar that had been closed up inside the wall, they did not leave anything good for me though :( I have also run into a problem with the placement of the shed because of the city zoning codes. I will be trying to deal with that soon so the pad can be poured. Here are a few progression pictures.

cool idea. Where did that sink come from in the last pic. It is not in the pics on the first page, but will be nice to have right next to the tank.

Yep thats the bar I found in the wall. I plan to rip that out as well so I can have a small room in there with a mini fridge, smaller sink, ladder and basic storage. That way all my fish stuff is out of the kitchen and the rest of the house.

When you said mini bar, I thought you ment like a mini pry bar. That's kind of funny to find something like that in a wall.

hey Ryan, just came across your thread, looks like things are progressing nicely! let me know if you need a hand with anything

Things are progressing but it seems like its one step forward two steps backs. The framer came by last night and feels that the changes can be made for support pretty easily. That will be done this weekend. I also got an opinion on the crack in the slab and was told it was nothing to worry about, but I think I'm going to get a second opinion on that part.

ahh, this is the fun part! remember?? lol

that is going to be a killer reef my friend, believe me I'm taking notes :)

I love the idea of being able to see the tank from two rooms; but are you worried about people being able to see through the tank into the room! :eek2:

What about having the filtration equipment outside. Since you are in AZ, will you have you use a chiller to keep the water at the right temp?

I'm not worried about people seeing into the bedroom, I wont be doing anything in there with people over :) But my wife on the other hand is not a fan of it. So I decided I will have curtains on a track that can be opened and closed by remote on the bedroom side. The shed holding all my equipment will be air conditioned so I'm not too worried about the temp.

Here are a few quick pictures of the stand and removable light rack which will also hold me above the tank. I currently working on painting the stand with POR-15. Tomorrow it gets its 3rd coat. Stand is built out of 2X2 .120 wall steel. Hopefully the framing will also be completed tomorrow.

looks super nice Ryan, so the rail will sit over the stand and you will slide across it with something on rollers?

Yep, I plan to hang garage door track or something of that sort from the light rack then build a creeper like device to "slide" right above the tank.

Here are a few updated pictures with the new supports in place and the bar removed. We ended up breaking the water line off in the wall and getting a bit of water on the floor= wife not too happy, as if she wasnt unimpressed with the gapping hole in our bedroom already.

Dude make your bed before you put up pics.

I cant believe you found a mini bar! hahaha
What a killer find! Now you have water supply and a drain right next to the tank. Hook your RO up to it and water changes could be done in minutes!
