My 540G Inwall Display Build Thread

do not forget to seal the bottom of the air handler platform with dywall after you run the pumping through, so as not to draw unfiltered air into the system.

have you thought about how you are going to do the solar lights with the opening that is above the tank? are you going to drywall that area?

I agree with having the openings bigger. My tank is euro braced but the eurobrace is 4" wide on my 36" wide tank and it makes it very hard to clean the inside JMHO

I know a lot of people don't like to share numbers when building a tank but I think its an important part to share as people read these threads to help plan their own build. Obviously the cost involved is one of the most important things you need to plan for. With that said here is a breakdown so far on costs.

Tank $3250
Bulkheads $275
Stand and canopy $1300
Paint for stand $100
Wood for framing and labor $300
Multiple dates with wife to keep her happy during construction...Priceless.

Bid for (4) 13" solar tubes $3000 installed

wooo...and that is only the begining..good thing you already had some reactors and equipment right? i

Ya I forgot to list the cost on equipment I already bought.
Skimmer and CA reactor $1750 used
(2) 40G Breeders $100
(4) 75G Stackable tanks (Petco Style) Free :)
4'X4' Stock tank $150 used
(2) 125G sumps $100
I think that's it....

Enjoying the thread. Appreciate it. I have a 214gal and a 115gal. Want to combine them into something around your size at some point.

I like reading these monster tank builds, it's great to watch the progress and learn what all goes in to make a monster. I am glad you are posting the costs too, it reminds alot of us that it isn't for someone that osn't totally commited to it. Looks great by the way.

Coming along nicely Ryan, what's next?

I got the new AC flex duct ran above the tank a few weeks ago. It takes up a lot more space than I wanted it to, but I could not think of any other way to run it. Hopefully since its flex I can smash it a bit to fit the solar tubes or I will have to rip it all out and try something else. I also got the steel light rack (for the T-5) and slider for me :) attached to the header above the tank. I will try to get some pictures of these 2 things within a few days.

AC work parts and labor $650
15 feet of flex, 2 registers, moving air handler, misc parts

I'm out of cash to work on this project for 2-3 months while I save for the next big step which is the pad and shed to hold all the equipment.

Looking FAB!!! Very nicely done! Only one case of beer and 2 xl pizzas??? Must be nice! ;)

As a fellow Arizona Reefer I will definitely be following his one. Good stuff. Do you mind me asking exactly what the problem was in regard to the shed complying with city zoning?

Cool build so far. I have a shed suggestion for you...Have you thought about a Tuff Shed from Home Depot? I do not have a garage (which sucks) and I put a 8x12 Tuff Shed in the backyard behind the wall that my 300g display tank is on. All of the filtration equipment is in the shed. The floor is 3/4" OSB on top of steel joists. That is part of the shed cost. It was about $2500 delivered and built in place. It is just sitting on dirt and is very solid and stable. I have a 100g sump, 60g refugium and two 55g drums for top-off and saltwater. You wouldn't have to pour a slab if you went this route.
