My 65G Shallow Reef Tank

Are those Randalls or Resplendent anthais? They look awesome.........what are you feeding them?

Hi Ed,

They were sold to me as resplendent anthias. I am feeding them with a mixture of RS mysis, red plankton, chopped krill and brine shrimp. They refuse to eat mysis.

One of the females has turned to a male. There is no aggression whatsoever. I am really happy with these fish.

Happy new year.

First pictures of 2016 are reserved for a new arrival, Genicanthus semifasciatus. She is still a baby (~1.75"). My Bellus angel chased her for an hour. My other angels did not even notice her. Everything is calm now.

A beautiful fish!
The whole family is beautiful..
Nice addition.
Do the males look significantly different?
I wonder, now that you have two female genicanthus species, if one will turn into a male..

Hi Matt,

Thank you for liking my new fish. The males look significantly different and more striking:

I have got five different species of Genicanthus angels and all of them are females. If I had a bigger tank, I would get a few more G. semifasciatus females in the hope that one of them would turn into a male.

I carried out water change yesterday. While the water level was low, I took a few top-down pictures of my wild Acropora millepora frag. This coral has finally started to exhibit pink colouration. I have struggled with pink colours and I do not know why, but I am really pleased with this coral's progress. Sadly, it is not growing as fast as the adjacent Acropora nasuta which started to overshadow this millepora.

I am aware that this coral is nothing special compared to what you guys have in your tanks, nevertheless I like my pink millepora.

Thanks for your reassurance Matt. I have seen a very nice wild tabling pink acropora in my lfs. I might get a frag now that I can pull pink colours. The problem is where am I going to place it? :hammer:

This pink millie is beautiful and will only get better.
The only reason you have trouble with pinks is because you have no other pink corals!!
Bulent, get that new frag!
With just a little bit of effort, I'm sure you will find space. :)

I see plenty of rock in that picture. If you can see rock, there is room for more coral:thumbsup:

Thank you for your praise.

I have been reflecting on what you said above. I have come to the conclusion that I am sick too. :mixed: It is all your fault people. I used to be normal until I started to hang around with you lot. You have influenced me very badly and have made me become like you.

I am glad you have done that. :spin1:

My wife and I have just come back from movies. We watched Quentin Tarantino's Hateful Eight. I felt so good after the film, but my wife was not very impressed with my choice and left the theatre on two occasions. Fortunately, the worst killings happened while she was away. She told me that she would never let me choose a film ever again :mixed:. Anyway, I volunteered to drive her to Manchester tomorrow (45 miles from where we live) to visit her mother to get in her good books. While I am there I am going to visit my lfs and hope for the best that the pink tabling acropora is still there.

I love the pink milli. Mine was almost pink, but it's faded back to pinkish tan.

I am still working out what makes this coral become pink. I will let you know once I know the answer(s).

Bulent, you are an altruistic and caring husband!
Always thinking of others, before yourself. :)

Except for you choice of movies..

The male semifasciatus is such a beautiful fish. I have two females but I don't think one will turn because of a large male caudovittatus that rules my tank.

That pink mille is indeed a stunner! Great job getting it to color up and be so healthy. Finding more space in a tank can sometimes require some out of the box creativity, haha. I'm currently buying and chopping up some tonga branch and might start placing corals on corals if I have to

That is very true. :lmao:

This is why my wife and I have been married for 22 years.:deadhorse1:

This is a very useful information. Thanks for that. I am currently watching this new fish very carefully because she has caught my attention while nipping at some of my acroporas. I need to find out if she is going for polyps or mucus.

Thank you for your compliment. It does not look as good when you look at it through the glass. It is like looking at a clam through the glass as opposed to looking at it from above perpendicularly. This is why my confidence has increased a little after discovering that I am not doing badly after all, but much more work needs to be done.

I am going to remove some montiporas to accommodate this pink coral if I can get it tomorrow. I will also attach another one on my purple montipora. The last frag I attached on it did not make it. It has already been smothered by the montipora.
