My 65G Shallow Reef Tank

I was thinking this as well but there is that label stuck to it.. maybe a good soak in hot water would get the label off..

I use the clear bottom tray, which has no label except a small printed date. However, I avoided it while taking the pictures.

This photo is for Sahin. I believe that Sahin has the same coral in his tank. He and I bought the same coral from the same online dealer in the UK. The colour of this coral is getting very close to the photo used in the dealer's web site:

He used to market it as Acropora turaki for many years. Recently, he changed his mind after deciding that it was a different coral. He is selling it as bottlebrush Acropora .

What do you think it is?

The trade name is "Hawkins Echinata"

Another beautiful shot, Bulent!
Boy does this ever look like a Hawkins..
Could be echinata, could be turaki..
Here's a similar coral (has yet to recover from a August nutrient drop)
Could be the same thing.. It was a no name, broken off from a retailer's show tank. (Reef solution)
I always thought it was turaki..

Bulent, your latest photos show (me) that you don't need to spend money on new camera equipment, just buy a more sturdy and easier to use viewing box.
These latest shots really are nice!

Obviously there's a prize or something in order Bulent.......... :twitch:

A. speciosa - the tapering corallite tips.

Andrew, you want a price? Sure :uzi:

:lolspin:

Thanks for the advice on the name of the coral, A. speciosa.

Sahin, I have received your pm and am thinking about what you wrote. I will get back to you.

Thanks Matt. I think the coral in your picture looks identical to mine. Mine is under ~200-225 mmol/m2/sec PAR. I think the colour gets deeper as the light intensity drops. It was almost white under 400 mmol/m2/sec PAR.

Thanks again Matt.

I have seen some deep viewing boxes on Ebay. I might go ahead and buy one. At least I know that it will not be a waste of money.

My Acropora aspera colony has grown so much that it started to cast shadow over A. gomezi and A. lokani. I had to butcher it severely earlier tonight. In order to get to the thickest branches, I had to cut smaller pieces first. When the time came to cut the thickest branch, I simply could not :hammer:. I had to take the whole bl00dy thing out. I still could not cut the branch. I should have bought a small dremel tool like the one Andrew has :mad2:. I resorted to hacksaw and then tried the fragging tool. I finally succeeded. The branch that took me almost 20 minutes to cut is 5" X 5 " X 6" (high). I am going to measure its diameter tomorrow when I take its picture for my sales thread on a UK forum.

The monster Acropora aspera colony shown in the picture below measures 12" (high) X 16" (back to front) X 10" (left to right) AFTER cutting several medium-size frags inside the tank:

Axe fell on many its branches. It looks much leaner now. I am pleased to say that I did not cause any damage to any other coral while messing with this coral.

Happy New Year to you Bulent. I got your PM, will drop by your place if I'm ever near Sheffield.

Here are some photos, which I have just taken to mark the end of 2015 in my reef. Thanks for looking and a happy new year:

Looks amazing Bulent! Those Staghorns are creating a forest in there:) That is a really good idea to capture the tank for posterity, I think I need to get some pictures too today. Have a happy New Year!!!!

I love these shots.. Such a mature reef..
The stags are amazing but I just love how dense the growth is- how all the different corals are growing into and around each other..
Looks right out of the ocean!
All the best in 2016, Bulent!

Awesome pics of a wonderful SPS display Bulent, love that no matter how much stuff you chop out your reef always looks jam packed again with acros within weeks. Have a great 2016 mate :)
