MY 75 Gallon RR project and soon to be "former setup" DIAL UP BEWARE!

Cool Merv.
im on top of things dont worry Merv :)
Rich u are right to a point, a lot has to do with how much flow comes in to the trap, this would work fine on mervs sump but other reefers might think it will work great & not even think about the pump factor, no matter how many baffles u have if u have a heavy amount of water splashing in to ur sump the micro bubbles will just get pushed through, i know a lot of us know this but since there is so many new reefers out there i figure i would just post this so they don get confused.

dont blame brown it's all do to poor packing :) J/K
it's a good thing it was not the front glass.

Have you determined your desired normal water height in the sump yet?

6 inches if we're going to go with the projected 12 inches total sump height. 7 inches if we're gonna go with 14 inches sump height; sucks that acrylic sheets come in 2' X 4' (unless you can get a 4' X 8' sheet). I'll just elevate the skimmer with a 1" stand if we're gonna go 7" standing water height.

As far as flow, my aim is only 5-7X total total tank turnover per hour, so at 92 gallons tank volume, I would need a 500-600 gph pump. I may keep the Iwaki 20 after all. I'm afraid if I use the panworld pump, It may be too strong and force microbubbles through the baffles and into the tannk. I'll have to figure it out and see......

Here's a start:
Its drawn at 14" high

A few updates!

A few updates!

Stand and tank and hood, and YES, I'm still waiting to add the Eurobrace back on. So I figured I'll work on a few things. I did the plumbing for the top return manifold yesterday and made a few changes to the original plans.

tank-and-hood.jpg

plumbing-prep-1.jpg

To reduce miocrobubbles, I angled out most of the pipe fittings. I was thinking of fluidynamics for better linear flow.

plumbing-prep-2.jpg

Pre-PVC glue to make sure I'm satisfied with the manifold.

Rear right side of the manifold (taken from the back of the tank)

How it looks like from the front of the tank. All the loclines are 1/4 inch ends, most have valves for flow control.

I also messed around with the lighting yesterday. I was trying to position the reflectors so that it is somewhat suspended since I did not want the hot bulb to burn any wood. Also, I need a clearance since I'm installing a 93CFM fan above each reflector.

lumenarcs1.jpg

SO I came up with these: I bent a piece of Aluminum from Home Depot and drilled holes for height adjustment. I couldn't figure out how to suspend the front part of the reflectors, so I slept on it last night. (Sure enough, I found a solution this afternoon on a trip to the hardware store, will post tomorrow when I install it)

This is how the bracket looks like installed. More on the front suspenders tomorrow....

Bottom plumbing

Bottom plumbing

So, I was trying to crack my brain trying to figure out how I can make this tank more efficient. Right now, I am using:

An iwaki 30 for return
A sedra 9000 for the skimmer (recirc pump)
An Eheim 1046 for the reactor (recirc pump)
A maxijet 1200 to feed the skimmer
A Maxijet 600 to feed the reactor
A soon to be coming in Maxijet 1200 to feed the soon to be installed phosban reactor

So, I figured I may be able to eliminate about 40-50watts of power.....so here is the design for the bottom plumbing:

plumbing-bottom-1.jpg

Confused yet?!?!?!?

Feed lines for the Calcium Reactor, Phosban reactor and ONE more (extra)

plumbing-bottom-3.jpg

Feed line (gravity) for the Deltec reactor

So, hopefully, this design will work!

Plus did I mention I'm somewhat of an organized neat freak?

I'm gonna go clean up the big mess I made before the fiancee comes home from work in the morning...... God knows I've been breathing PVC cement fumes all night LOL

the-big-mess.jpg

I got my VHO's today, so I'll be wiring those on Thursday since I have to go to the soon to be inlaw's house for dinner tomorrow.......

SO until then!

Looks Great Merv! To answer your question though.. YES! I am confused!!! :-)

I'm sure the finished product fotos will answer many questions.

That will be to much flow if you only use it for the GFO reactor i use a 606 Mini jet for my larger Deltec GFO reactor and i have to cut the flow back some.

I will no longer be using any more maxijets or any extra feed pumps. I labelled the plumbing so you guys can see what my thought process is.

:bum:

I really should get back to work

looks good so what pump are u going to use ?

Don't know yet.

I have an Iwaki 20 MDRLXT that I'm currently using

I also have a Panworld 50XX that I bought from the Groupbuy for SUPER CHEAP

and I have the option of winning the Iwaki 30MDRLXT from the holiday party......

hmmmm choices, choices :D

Wow Merv... This is coming out great!

thanks brian, it's taking a little longer than expected, but i only have 10 fingers and 2 eyes but 5 fingers and one eye are dedicated to the tv remote for some reason LOL

OTHER PICS!!!

OTHER PICS!!!

okay, you guys must be getting bored with all the technical stuff I'm posting with this tank build.

How about something different?!?!?

Got these clams this morning from Barry Neigut.

Two of these clams are mine, the other two are chillin' waiting for Jason and Francis :)

A side shot from tonight (sorry, didn't bother to clean the glass)

:eek1: I'd better get busy !!!!!
Merv, I'll call Mainland Plate Glass and see what they have in stock. Maybe I can bring home some of the better stuff tomorrow.
I'll be in-touch.

I'm going to go set off a bomb to counter the bomb that already went off in my garage/shop. Need room to work!
