Rocks

Rocks

Went to the LFS today to see my buddy.

15 lbs of beautifully handpicked Flat, stinky Live rock uncured and fresh from Tuesday's shipment....mmmmmmm perfect for what I want to do.

I had some DIY rocks that have been sitting around for well over 6-8 months, some even before that. I had made them with legs to sit up above the glass, and they were kinda heavy. Perfect for the base of these:

DIY rock is Gray, LR is brownish purple

I had about 50/50 in these pillars, half DIY, half LR. I used Zip ties, Plastic hangers and my new found friend- THORITE.

The thorite gets hard in about 10-15 minutes, I was taking my time, not realizing that the container was getting solid along with its contents.

I used the thorite to cover all the ZIp Ties and hanger "dowels"

NOTE TO SELF: Never use your hands AGAIN when mixing, handling and applying thorite. It is very bad for your skin. Trust me, My hands look and feel like elephant skin.

That's all I'm making. The rest of the rock will be transferred over.

Thorite?

I hope you aren't refering to radioactive Uranium there!

Quick setting patching cement, cures under water as well, but not as good as dry applications.

I would hope it's not from Uranium

Lookin good bro!

How long will that have to cure?

Ehhh, technically 2-3 weeks, but I'm gonna move the tank anyways. Being that these guys are one piece, I can always just move them into the display once they cure.

They're sitting in a tub of detritus laden tank water right now, I just did a 10 gallon quickie water change- My first in about a month and a half

What the heck are you doing up at 3 AM?

or better still- what the heck am I doing up at 3AM!!!

I'm going to bed! More pics tomorrow as I progress...........

Those look awesome, great job on the rock work
that is coming along great.
cant wait to see some corals on those rocks.

Liverock holders

Liverock holders

1/2 tubing and a lot of messing around.

LEGO ain't got nothin' on me!

I'm trying to use minimal rock in the display, plus I wanted to elevate them for better water circulation....

In the tank by the overflow box

Now all I have to do is Glue them together and drill holes in them to aid in circulation and so there are no dead spots of water within the tubes.

this is the fun part!

Holding tank

Holding tank

The tank with the busted Euro was used to temporarily hold all my corals.

I didn't realize there were so many or that big!

WOW! I couldn't imagine how all this fit in my 75 gallon tank!
