i lied. tank is taking a bit longer to setup than anticipated. i got most of the plumbing done. i still have to build a platform to raise the stand up.

I'd go t5's personally, but everyone has their own opinion. I've seen some have problems with radions not keeping color on their sps, but getting growth and vice versa. The t5's may produce more heat and use more electricity, but other than metal halides it's one if the most proven systems for growing sps.

ATI LED Powermodule gets my vote! I've never used one, but it's the light I'd buy if I had the money. Seems like an amazing T5/LED hybrid.

im getting great color on my tank now, DB 30g with Radion G1, however the growth isn't what I expected.

i agree, it is a very sweet fixture. idk if i'm ready to dish out $1800 :headwallblue:

Yeah, I feel bad for making the suggestion now. :p I looked up the price after I posted this; I'm sure it's a great fixture, but even if I could blow that much money on a light, I wouldn't. Don't get me wrong. I've owned a Powermodule and two Sunpower's, and I loved them. But, I didn't love them $1800 worth!

How are your DIY skills? I've thought about building a T5/LED hybrid for my 60g Deep Blue (same footprint as the 80g). Currently I have 1 x 250w Radium, but The coverage isn't great and I don't want to run 500w over this tank.

exactly. I don't think I've seen anyone who is 100% satisfied with a led fixture on their sps tank. I'd go with the ATI 8 bulb.

LEDs are a great concept, but to my understanding, it's more of a spot light where as T5s with individual reflectors, and MH, will give you a wider range of true light. Idk what I'm going to do.:headwally:

If MH's weren't so expensive, like any other reefer, I would use them lol. I have approached the idea of retrofitting T5's with the Radions, however I still need to do some more research.

It's going to be an amazing system when completed.

I hope so! Thank you! You're right around the corner from me. I'm in CNJ. It takes me 20 to get to SI without traffic. Do you have SPS under your G1 Radion? If so, how's the growth?

Easiest way to DIY led/t5 is buy a 4-8 bulb t5 fixture and just leave x amount of t5 bulbs in the fixture and install tubular heat sinks on the sides where the other t5 bulbs normally go. Not the cheapest way but it makes it very easy to do.

Ps forgot to mention you install your LEDs on the tubular heat sinks

i decided to stick it out with the radions. i didn't really consider the increase in electricity, until i did the math. i do not want to pay 8x more just for t5's.

you've already got the radion's, might as well give them a chance. You can always change later. Personally I'd save the money and just try the radions for 6 months-1 year. before changing over to a new light setup.

Regardless I have to buy another radion. It's the same price as a t5 fixture. If I sell my current radion, I get more money in my pocket. I'm not too happy with the growth under the radion.
