My Acan LPS Tank

I got some more acans and some fish. Until I get a real camera here are some camera phone shots. I tried my best to match the real color.

Here are the new acans I was able to photo:

Looks awesome! Just one piece of advice. If the sick coral you got was realeasing any type of jelly you might want to remove or keep an eye out on it in case it does it again. Some type of jellys are contagious and as soon as they start spreading its difficult to stop. I would hate for you to loose any of the AMAZING coral you have because of this! Again just a piece of advice. . ;)

That piece unfortunately did not make it. Had to throw it away. The rest of the coral seem to be doing fine. Going to do a water change today just to get rid of any possible remnants of the jelly.

What type of dosing do you do for your acans? I would also be interested to know your equipment setup i.e. skimmer, media reactors, etc. I was under the impression that acan were somewhat difficult to keep and very slow growers. Thanks for sharing (and spending all the cash so we can see some nice pieces).

awesome tank acans are one of my favorite coral I finally pick up a Australian frag today, although it was priced kind of low for coral from down under. 49.99$???

nice looking tank man, just watch your acans that is all anything new so a DIP i lost over 35 different colonies of acans from not doing a dip on one acan frag that i got. im down to 8 now well over 5000 in acans i have spent and lost all.

+1 Your tank looks amazing now but when they grow in.....:celeb1: Just to echo Cubbies, acans have a number of diseases that can spread and spread fast. I lost all mine with some weird thing that I could not stop.:headwalls:

Great looking tank. Can't wait to see the tank as it progresses. That is a lot for a couple of months. Good luck!

I do not dose at all. I simply feed pellets. Pellets I feed the acans: New Life Spectrum Pellets

My equipment is pretty simple. A Octopus 150 Skimmer and a couple of powerheads. Also a 6 bulb Tek Light T5.

I keep my temp at 78F using a heater and a simple fan.

Here are links to what I have:

very nice. I'd love to do something similar with blasto's. I've started collecting frags for it. I hope I can find some nice color morphs.

great looking stuff. are the large colonies you buy from wholesalers pretty hardy? I've found a source to buy colonies buy the box and am thinking about doing so.

Yes they are hardy. I only recommend buying a large amount if you can see them in person. You do not want to buy a box without really knowing the quality or color of the acans.
