My back in hobby build

Ty roblack, im goong to post some pics as soon as I get home. I have been testing daily like sahin said, and I have been keepin alk at 8, calcium 460, po4 at .09 with hanna, na3 undetectable. Wierd I have phos and no nitrates. Always thought they would go hand in hand. I have been dosing MB7 now for 1 week, so fsr so good. I cut down on feeding a bit as im getting algea on the sand bed. Thinking of adding vinager to the mix.

If you start to use Vinegar be sure to lower the Alk to 7.5dKH. You may get some Cyanno with Vinegar use, however its usually much less an of occurrence with Vinegar compared to Vodka.

Add a load of hermits on the sandbed where the algae is appearing most. They usually work hard for me.

I have ZERO algae is my tank. And I dont use GFO, havent do so for 3 months now. I believe this is in part due to my filtration now being mature; but also due to the clean up crew I have.

I'd rather have a bit of hair algae to be honest than deal with Cyanno or worse.

I feel you sahin, cyano ia the biggest pain ever. Ill give it some thought. Also im going to *** about 20 hermits more tomorrow, and going to go lights out for 2 days See if it helps. Also, starting to do weekly wc instead of b.w. btw how are u feeling bud.

Lights out for 2 days does knock the Cyanno back. So on evening before, or on the morning when you switch the lights back on, carry out a midweek water change. Keep an eye on alk during this time because without lights the Alk usage will drop.

Dont be too afraid of the Hair algae. In any event, these are part of the algae and bacteria succession that comes and goes during the first year of a tank.

I'm feeling a lot better these days thanks for asking.

Ill keep an eye on alk like you said. Also I think the algea in the sandbed looks more like cyano than hair A. Its freaking ****ing me of. However my concern now and priority is coloring up these sticks lol.
And im glad your better bud. Following your thread as well. If only only I jad the space I would have gone t5 like you. Not saying leds dont work, but they are such a pain to calibrate

I really like this build! Cool location for a tank.

TY Ormet, it means a lot coming from you and sahin. you guys tanks is what i aspire for mine to look like one day. HOPEFULLY lol. I have been testing every day like sahin told me to. Alk and calcium has been holding steady at 8 and 460. I have been dosing 1ml of brightwells a/b. Also doing weekly 10g water changes instead of b.w. Adding 1 mb7 every time i change water. I have cut down on feeding to 2 times a day instead of 3, however i feeding a little but more since i have seen some corals getting a bit pale. Hanna was reading 0.00, and undetectable na3 on salifert. Im now feeding rods food , and i LOVE IT. I took of my gac also due to the paling of sps, since i had this happen in the past, but I’m still running gfo passive in a bag. Im could say that some corals are getting a bit more color, i can always judge by my rainbow monti. Once all polys go brown i now something is off. Now they are getting color back. Weird because some of my sps look amazinggg now. Lets hope they all turn arround. Oh i need some help with aquascaping. My wife decided i should get an rbta, and the bugger has possition itself in a rock that was full of corals. I have moved that rock to the center of tank, but i have NOOOO idea what to do with it. Im thinking of doing an island or something with it

All sounds good. Once you know the Alk is stable, you can measure every 4 days and then once weekly. If you add loads of new SPS corals, then start measuring Alk a bit more frequently etc. Same goes if you start noticing lots of Coralline algae growth.

Regarding PO4, I dont trust the Hanna reagents to be consistent. But if your tank is actually undetectable, then I would cut the GFO amount to half of what you are using, then test for a few days. As long as its below 0.03ppm, you shouldnt get any algae issues and your SPS should become less pale. Its good to have the PO4 in the detectable range for the SPS.

As for the rbta, I've never kept one as my main goal was always SPS and the two dont mix very well.

I'll leave it to someone else to advise regarding that.

Hey guys sorry i have been neglecting the thread. I just had a baby boy and really havent been had time to post. Tank is doing great though. Growing but not as fast as i would like to, im dosng 2 parts a/b tlf and mag with trace from brighwell. Besides that nothing else. Shoot im even doing w/c monthly now 20g. I must say, i was dripping kalk and the corals were growing like weeds but it made my water cloudy at times. So i went back to two part. Anyways here it is

:) enjoy
