My back in hobby build

If they are anthias they are females

Really enjoy watching this build, excellent job!
Thank, didn't know that they were like clowns just other way around lol sweet. They are super shy though, they have been hiding in the rocks all day :'( idk what to do:'(
awesome build, great attention to detail :)

Thank you, i cant take the credit since it mostly has been the d wife's ideas bailing me out lol

Hey guys sorry i haven't posted in a few. I seem to have a bad bacteria bloom i just don't know how to get rid of. Its killing me, and on top its take two of my anthias :-(. I tested my water and everything seems good, my cycle is over it seems. I had a tiny diatom breakout but its going away now. All params are good, ph 8.2 alk 10, calc 420, and ammonia , nitrites and nitrates are undetectable almost. Feeding very little, every other day. Skimming gunky, but just went to wet since i read its better for blooms. Got carbon going in 2 mesh bags. But this bacterial bloom is making my water extra milky wth. 2 of the 3 anthias died, they were eating baby misys and seemed very happy. I'm m afraid to loose the last one. Any help on how to stop this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

Hey guys sooo the bacteria bloom killed my fishies poor guys, but corals are looking great. I ended buying a uv ( mean green) from petco, and my water is sooo crystal clear now. I guess it killed everything, since skimmer has been pulling some nasty stuff. Still haven't gotten my doors, i ended up ordering new ones from imeca. They do custom measurements and the look just like the one's in my kitchen. Here are some pics of some sticks i got from my buddy. A few of them were doing very bad in his tank, and apparently are doing better in mine since i got them. Sorry for the crappie pics, its very difficult to get good pics with these leds :-\.

This is really a cool build. Sorry for the Anthias loss. It does sound like the tank is still in it's cycle. I had rocks like the ones you described and it took months before they stopped affecting the parameters of the tank. Anthias also need to be in groups. of at least 2 or 3. once you get down to the last one, they almost always die off within a few days of its school mate. Its happened to me. I would throw in some shrimp into the tank to have some movement but not risk adding fish at least through the last nitrate spike. Usually 4-6 weeks from pouring water in, I think. Maybe someone can chime in. Its been a long time since I have cycled a tank. Keep at it. It looks great.

Very nice and clean...and the location is phenomenal!
A nice 18-20 oz. cup of established live sand and some established live rocks (from a healthy tank) will help speed up the cycle.

awesome build! thanks for the link, as some have posted i think the tank is still cycling, some of your posts about the water tests say that nitrates are undetectable "almost", if you could post the exact numbers we can advise on whether it is safe to add fish yet, I know the moment my wife opens a bottle of ammonia to clean, well imagine sitting in a closet with no doors or windows to open and just an open bottle of ammonia burning your lungs and eyes, that's how the fish feel. I would keep feeding as if the Anthias were still there and maybe add a small clean up crew of 20 or so blue leg and white leg hermits (no snails yet). white legs are super fast and fun to watch, then once water tests are all 0, do a water change and decide on your fish list.

also, do you have a quarantine/disinfection tank?

ty :). as far as the sand like you said, i did do it . Got it from my buddys tank that is about 3-4 yrs old. Maybe i didnt cook the rock long enough. A well its over with now.

Sonic, water params are all 0 except nitrate that is between 0-5ppm. not bad really in my opinion. Just got me a bi-color blenny today. I LOVE this fish, always have. They are just so funny. Next on list are 2 snowflake clowns :). As far as qt tank , no i don't have one. I have never believed in them. IMO i wont buy a fish unless it looks perfect to my eye, and eats in from of me. Corals different story, i dip them bad boys . Oh i forgot got me 30 hermits few days ago

Some new sexi corals, courtesy of Sam. Sorry for the crappy gs4 pics once again. I cant take good pics with these lights to save my life.

that bi-color blenny will eat the Sh... out of your SPS coral.. esp that monti right next to him ( from what i can tell in that picture.. )

ask me how i know. :)

Nice build, how is the wall being held up without resting on the tank?
I placed a 2*6 brace to the other side of the wall and drilled it to the opposing studs. Buddy who is an architect told me it would be good enough.

Well bad news, the blenny and 2 hippos tangs i have purchased havedied. All 3 have been victims of my mp10. ***. They have been perfectly healthy fish. But i have found all 3 sucked in by it. Im seriously considering no fish lol

wow, i'm sorry for your loss. Thats very unfortunate, it's never any easier to lose a fish.

How far apart did they die from one another? Not to discredit your theory but if they all died within a 48-72 hour time period from one another i would think something else killed them, and their lifeless bodies were drawn into the powerhead, i find it hard to imagine two healthy hippos (even if small) not being able to resist it. Did you find them all head on the pump, or did any of them have life left in them when found? Just my opinion but their cause of death could well be something different........just a thought.
