one of my favourite fish and excellent job keeping it alive keep up the good work would love to see more pics

Well, one thing this thread has done is to dissuade me of the idea of starting a babby Pomacanthus angel (any species, but especially P. imperator!) in my 60gallon tank. That little guy is growing up FAST! LOL

very cute!!! Looks like he's still doing well.

What is that blue smear above him in the last picture?

That is very cool.
Are you in South Africa? What is the water temp there?
Also, how in the heck did you SEE that little fish?!

Yes, Durban on the East Coast, borders the Indian Ocean.
Sea temps in summer around 25 deg C.
Winter it can drop to around 18-19 deg C

I was lucky, looked under this shallow ledge and didnt see anything worthwhile. Suddenly this guy popped out of a crevice , came to check me out. Its a spot I often see juvi butterflies like Lunulas and Aurigas. Not really what I'm after but worth a look none the same. Most likely juvi angels on our coast are striatus and semis. They look very similar when small. At first I thought he was a semi, but the white horizontal line on the front of the face is different to the former whose stripe normally runs vertically down the forehead.

One of the tricks when hunting fish in rockpools is never to assume anything. Also you got to get wet, sitting watching the pool from the top often reveals very little. Ledges are a typical hiding place for most reef tank fish we want. (But watch out, some huge moral eels hide out there too, so one has to be careful where one sticks ones face or hands. They will only attack you in defence though, but caution is advised.)

Wow! Congratulations! What ratio of food were you feeding him? Did u spot feed him or just feed the whole tank to get him to eat?

sorry missed your post.

I had him in my frag tank. There was quite a lot for him to peck on there.
That said, I did a lot of feeding with Ocean Nutrition frozen Lobster eggs, cyclops, red plankton, brine shrimp and cyclopseeze. Its a very small tank, only about 20 gallons, so the food concentration was quite heavy. Being part of a 300G system, the risk of the water going bad, was non existant. He ate almost immediately, so I guess I got a little lucky,
