My Black Ocellaris pair are spawning!!!

Are all the fry and juveniles that you are raising from one breeding pair of clowns? If so I am going to have to completely rethink my breeding system plans.

Just spent the past week reading through your thread, as well as FB's and Dazed's. Excellent reads, 3 of the most interesting I've read in quite a while. I'm currently working on setting up my new display, but hope to give this a try when things settle down.

In reading each thread, it's amazing how one person can have such bad luck while another seems to progress with very little. It's crazy how many little things there are that can affect the outcome of each clutch.

Great read, time for an update.

Nothing really new on the Black O's. I have been having a nagging problem with one tank of death that I can't seem to lick. I put my new Ocellaris in the display so I decided to take 1/2 the fry from the TOD and put them in the QT. I hadn't realized how many fish there were. I'm now thinking it may have been low Oxygen. Today they look pretty good. Not perfect but much better overall.

As I said I put the new ones in the display. The black O's quickly asserted their dominance. The other ones kept bugging but kept getting chased back. When I put them in I had them in a big net and netted them over the bubble hoping they would take to it right away and make a home. They didn't.

Tonight the female is now in the bubble! My wife Msn'd me today and said she looked like she got into the carpet and was covered in white and hiding in the rocks not looking good. She figured she would die. By the time I got home she was being hosted by the bubble with very little white still on her. I she chases the male away when he comes near. Oh and the bubble is looking less bleached now. I do like the bleached colour more though. Here's some pics.

rkelman, cool pictures, it's been a couple of days now, has the (2) groups made there peace in the tank?

Dazed: They have made peace. The female regular O is now tolerating the male near her anenome so they are staying together again. He did spend a couple nights near the carpet and the Black O's at first. They had decided to stop chasing him away.

Kerusso316: She was severely stung by the carpet the day I took that pic and by the next day was completely recovered and is perfect again. (i qt'd these fish so I know there was no Disease) Thanks :)

rkelman, my black clowns laid their first set of eggs on Friday. Do you think it is possible to order everything online that would be needed to rear this batch or am I too late?

I have read all 25 pages of this post (started way back when you 1s got started) but unfortunately don't remember 90% of it!

Not likely gotfrogs.. I started a couple days after my first hatch and barely saved any. And I picked up my supplies. Your best bet would be to try and get Rotifers / Phyto locally. Try local reef clubs / lfs and ask around. I'd be glad to help if you have any questions. You can post here or pm me.

I am trying to put together a list of things to order. At first glance on http://www.reed-store.comit looks like the supplies are going to be expensive. From the quick re-review of this thread I have come up with needing to order the following items.

Otohime â€"œ I see that there are several different types. Which one do I need and how much should I order to get started?
Roti Diet - How much should I order to get started?
nanno 3600 nannochioropsis algae â€"œ Do I need this in addition to the Roti Diet?

I have on hand or can buy locally air pumps, tanks, heater, and other basic supplies. I will try and get rotifers from a fellow hobbyist. Surly someone in Houston has some that they are willing to share. If not is there a certain type that I should order? Is there anything else that I should order online tonight that I can’t get locally? Thanks for your help, I hope I have 1/100th of the success that you have had! If I have not told you before, you are the reason I have a pair of black clowns and a blue carpet.

Here are two pictures from Friday, the eggs are naw gray/brown in color.

I will take this off line to a new thread if I have any luck with them. Thanks again!

Get the Otohime Starter pack. That will be enought to get you going. Then you can decide what sizes you want to keep in stock later.

I use Rotifer Diet but I think the Nanno 3600 may be more efficient. (i'm not sure. Use either of those) You'll go through quite a bit so I would think the 1l package would be the best buy. (that's how I buy it)

Nice carpet. That tank is small for a carpet though.

Order a rotifer screen too. Screening the Rots with a coffee filter is a real pain.

I'm having smaller fry die on a regular basis in 2 tanks now. They are getting thin and dieing. One tank is on the growout system and all of the older clowns are fine. I'm not getting cloudy water or anything but I'm loosing 5-10 a day. If anyone has any advice / suggestions I would appreciate it. I can't seem to get control of it.

About 3 months I`d say average. Some are only 2 some are 4.

Well that sounds familiar except i have to substitute the whole batch instead of 5-10. Wish i could figure it out as well; does all of the water parameters check out?
