My bluespot jawfish

I have a bluespot jawfish, for about 2 weeks now. He is doing really well...eats good acts good. However, there are some white things on his body, just one side. It looks like wound marks from scraping on the rocks/rubble he has made. He goes in and out so fast in such a small hole...what do you think it is

If it is similar to what one of my wrasse who had it and it looks similar to white cotton or some kind of fungus, it will go away. You will need to feed it alot, though.

Doubt it will go away this is very common with these fish. Unfortunetly it will die. These fish just dont have a good track record. They are very disease prone. Dont adjust very well to the water temps we keep our reefs at they are use to colder waters

I would be hesitant to make a blanket statement like this that just because the fish has some markings of disease it is definitely going to die.

Some pics would help to identify what kind of markings you are talking about.

I hope yours makes it. I tried a blue spot in my tank and he only lasted a couple of weeks.. He was eating fine one day and gone the next. Never did find him. I have a large tank with lots of rock, so he probably died out of sight and the scavangers finisheed him off. I won't waste my money on another. I hear that they are hard to keep.

Sounds like the dreaded bluespot jaw disease. I would need to see a pic to be sure.

My bsj had the same prob and his rear fin got all tore up. I thought for sure he was going to die since all my others did. I just kept feeding him and now his sores have gone away and his rear fin is starting to grow back. He eats like crazy and seems to get better everyday... but I still keep my fingers crossed that he doesn’t die since I have had such bad luck with them in the past.

Don’t give up on him yet

Unfortunately, the percentages favor what kdblove_99 said.

Mine did the same thing and died in 3 days. One day eating like a pig. Next day gone.

I have had mine for about 6 months now. He had flukes when I got him and torn up fins from fighting the other jawfish at the lfs. I treated for the flukes and he healed up pretty quickly. I noticed a little while ago that he had a cloudy eye and white clump on the side of his head but they also healed pretty quickly. I have noticed that when the temp gets too high in our tank he won't eat as well. So now that my husband turned off one of his skimmers it hasn't been a problem.

I have had one for about 18 months now and it is doing great. He started out in my 135 which I had to fish him out of my overflow twice and is now in my 300 acrylic with protected overflows and has settled in to a fortress he has built in front of the tank to keep an eye on everything. Really great personality.

I believe that is what it is. I also have a blue spot, (going on 9 months), and mine will occassionally get those white marks. After a few days they are gone. I think they get it from rubbing against the substrate / live rock rubble.
