ok and do you use a whole disk for one 2 litter culture or do you split it and use it for two bottles?

When i started my cultures i purchased 3 of the disks that we have talked about via pm's. I used 1 disk for each 2l bottle. I only started 2 bottles and put the extra disk in my refigerator as a back up in case i did something wrong and had a crash.

I have a wife and two daughters too. We are definitely out numbered ! LOL

:D LOL; We sure are and i have been saying that for a while around my place; I even have 2 female dogs:eek: I am out numbered 5 to 1 no wonder i hide in my garage at times:smokin:

Nice new large batch of eggs laid last night :D

Now the waiting game begins i suppose i checked on the batch a couple of times last night after lights out and still the only thing i can find around the eggs are arestina starfish & limpets.

I know it's best to leave them in the care of the male but i lost the last ones while still on the tile, i have not been able to confirm what happened.

but if the hatching has changed from 9 days to 6 days that might be the cause.

I think i will try and leave the eggs until Friday. i have plenty of rotifers now i just need to get my phyto back up to speed for some reason i lost 2 bottles for the first time since i started. lol always something it seems..

As soon as you can see the silver eyes, you are within 48 hours of hatching. I would expect them to hatch on Day 7, so you could pull them on Day 6 and put them back in the ammonia soup, er... new and ready fry tank. :D

Ammonia soup :D

Yeah the silver eyes although the problem has been the last 2 times around the batches have vanished on the morning of day 6; no real idea why as of yet; the last batch sure did not have the silver eyes so i waited and ended up with nothing.

Did you see any egg sacs on the on the tile. That's a good indication that they have hatched and not eatan.

FB

Come to think of it NO, the last time around the tile was completely bare ugh:rollface:

thanks for the suggestion that makes me lean back towards something is getting to them before i can, lol.....

Shine a flashlight on them to check for reflective "silver" eyes. I've seen people totally miss the whole silver eye bit ;)

Prepare yourself for an all nighter :D

That's pretty much what happened, lol.... I think it's the peppermint shrimp that are helping themselves to an easy treat while the clowns hang out in the anemone after lights out. I had 3 in the tank, I have only seen 2 lately, I caught one last night & placed him in the sump. I need to still catch the other one.

For some reason i think that all of my phyto has gone bad geessshshshsh this is so fun.
So i called up reed mariculture & talked with Randy Reed & placed an order for a bottle of Rotifer Diet & will try and use it this time around and see how it goes.

I have done that before and it does help; the problem i think is they are being eaten before they are ready; the last batch that disappeared the eyes were definitely not silver; they were still black.

"dont use bottles for breeding thats the only thing
and every thing else looks good"

Umm... Huh?

X 2 I am confused as well.

I was not going to comment on that comment thinking the two of you may have had a PM that he was refering to?

X 3 confused

:D No pm's but no worries Bill says we are ok

Last night i managed to catch the 2nd peppermint shrimp and placed him in the sump with his buddy for now, I hope that this fixes the issue of the eggs vanishing in thin air.

Your Clowns are are still pretty new at this aren't they? Probably they are eating them not the shrimp... I hope I'm wrong. Mine started eating them then stopped laying all together!

They have been laying eggs for about 4 months now. I am not sure how much experience that gives them??

I have had them around 4-4.5 years now i think, they started laying the eggs a month after my tank upgrade.

It might just be a coincidence but the last couple of batches have not made it past 5 - 6 days; and what i mean by that is no eggs on the tile at all. No leftover egg sacs(from hatching) just a completely bare tile;
before that the eggs were hatching like clockwork every 9th night in my reef.

Looking back over my notes the only change to my reeftank was the addition of the peppermint shrimp (for an attempt at aptasia control, which they did nothing for) by the way.

I guess it is a bit of a shot in the dark but i am just hoping i am right at this point.
